Who should deal with the insurance?

I had a leak from my neighbours bathroom and I'm trying to get money from the building insurance to cover the damage. The neighbours who had the leak put all the work on me.

should they be more Involved as they would need to pay the damages if not insurance

Would be nice if they did but your the one claiming so up to you to do all the work. That said there shouldn’t be that much to do!
