Replacing Electricity Meter - Morrison Utility letter

We're with Eon and had a letter from Morrison Utility about them replacing our electricity meter. Apparently it's coming to the end of it's life and needs to be done asap.

We called them to book an appointment and confirmed that they won't be replacing it with a smart meter, which we don't want at the moment, but it's purely to make sure it's still working properly.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? We were sure it was a ploy to make us have a smart meter, but apparently not. No one else I know has had this happen as far as I'm aware.

Many thanks for any help/info

Yes I've had a meter replaced due to being at the end of it's life. Just make sure to take note of the final meter reading on the old meter and the start reading on the new one

And I don't have a smart meter

Ah great, thank you. I will make a note to take the readings as well, I hadn't thought about that.

I had my gas meter replaced after I'd bought a new boiler and the gas usage dropped by a quarter.

I think they suspected it was underreading, or I had interfered with it.

A couple of times I've had old spinning-disk electricity meters changed for more modern digital ones. The disk ones are very old.
