Hi, our family are looking to relocate to South Lanarkshire, can anyone suggest some areas worth looking into?

Thanks.

Carluke and Lanark.

I used to live in Cambuslang, some parts are nice, plus bits of nearby Rutherglen, such as Burnside. Maybe East Kilbride? Are you moving for work? Where, if so?

Strathaven and Bothwell are both lovely.

Try the Scotsnet forum: Other stuff > Scotsnet.

If you want/need to be close to Glasgow - Rutherglen or Cambuslang. The motorway extension means you're 10 minutes by car, and 10 minutes on the train.
Lovely parts of both, but look out for schools, shops, etc. because some parts (especially some new builds) are better catered for than others. Burnside is lovely as PP said, but prices reflect that.
Hamilton or East Kilbride are further from the city, but still lots of choice and pretty well served.
SL is huge though - you could literally be 10 minutes from the city or the middle of the countryside or in a village, so plenty of choice.

Thank you all for suggestions. We are staying a few days in Carluke, then a few days in Glasgow. So far we are looking at houses and flats in Lanark, And nearby areas.

No, not moving for work purposes. We just want to raise our kids away from London. My partner was born in Scotland but his family moved when he was a toddler. I’ve lived in London all my life and want a quieter country life for the kids.

Thanks again 😀

Good suggestion to post on Scotsnet. May I ask why specifically South Lanarkshire? Wouldn’t necessarily be my first choice for country life. Are you looking to rent or buy? Budget if you’re looking to buy? And

Sorry posted too early. And do you need to be able to commute to anywhere in particular for work or are you fairly flexible?

MrsKyloRen · 07/06/2019 19:46

You’ve chosen a good time to be there OP, Lanark lanimers day yesterday and Carluke gala day tomorrow! Hope you’ve seen some of the fun and community spirit! 😀SmileSmile

Wouldn’t be my first choice either - any other areas you fancy?

Veterinari · 07/06/2019 19:49

If you're Looking for relocation areas, Stirlingshire, East Lothian and Perth are all rather nice
