Shower wall panels

Anyone used the plastic wall paneling for their shower cubicle rather than tiles? What are people's experiences? Especially with the company igloo?

My friend has these in what should be a rather nice 4 bed house in a solid MC area. I think they have cheapened the house and make it look too institutionalised. I know they are liked for easy cleaning but if you have a high value house, I would avoid. You rarely see them in lovely houses in magazines, if ever!

I’ve got them - you just have to be very selective about the style as some look a bit like what you’d get in a care home/hospital.

They are much easier to keep clean than tiles - just squeegee after a shower and no issues with grout getting manky.

I went for a glossy slate style finish - looks lovely!

Love mine, black sparkly and very clean

I am looking to get these for an ensuite shower and am worried about it looking cheap. But so wanting easy to clean. So I am avoiding the marble-type look. I am probably going for a pale blue or aqua. Have you also used the panels above the basin?

We got Bush board nuance and they seem good, in frost colour.
The only down side was the cost, each panel was over 200 pounds. But the finish is excellent and no grout etc.

They’re practical but so institutional/ student house like. Why not tiles and bathroom paint above?

sluj · 25/05/2019 18:36

Bushboard nuance is excellent but definitely not cheap. Perhaps
people who think it's cheap looking have only been looking at the ones in Wickes?

We've got Mermaid Board in all our showers - one is dark slate-effect the others are off-white. Not at all cheap, expertly fitted by our plumbers (they came as a shower kit with all the fixings and sealants), and absolutely impermeable. And thanks to the water softener we don't have scale staining either. The sealant is all colourless silicon. No mould, no discoloured grout.

Here are mine - can't remember which ones they were but they are brilliant!

Still spotless after 5 years!
