I will appreciate some feedback on the kitchen attached kitchen plans. I will prob change the island worktop to be one level.

Other than that I am pleased with the layout. Am wondering if there is anything I have missed?

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't have a sink (?) on the work top next to where the oven is as you need a space to put things down quickly.

chopc · 19/05/2019 07:40

@floraloctopus I would have thought there is enough space on the island worktop to place hot food?

There is room but personally I always put tray to side to baste etc then return
Turning around with a hot baking tray etc to place it on the island seems more faffy

If it was me I would:

  • Not have wall units - it will look much cleaner.
  • if you are having bar stools for seating rather than normal chairs I would change the island to be one unit, not split level- that way you could have storage under where the bar stools are end still leave space for legs. I think the split might date.
  • Do you need a second sink on the island.
Tealfrog · 19/05/2019 07:59

I have oven in a wall bank like you and use my island - it is fine.
Can you do side by side oven/ micro - your oven looks too low - ideally at eye level - imagine lifting stiff out

Tealfrog · 19/05/2019 08:01

Not everyone needs to sit at island - it looks busy - we are family of 4 and have 3 seats - one of us is cooking - island is used for snacking, breakfast not sit down meals

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 19/05/2019 08:07

You have a full dining table a few steps away so having 5 seats at island is excessive. Definitely make island single level.
What size are your 2 sinks? Is one big enough for the largest thing you need to wash in it?
I have a work surface beside my oven but still prefer to turn and put things on island

chopc · 19/05/2019 08:12

Thank you for your responses.

@Tealfrog do you mean the wall units besides the extractor?

I agree about making island one level

It's hard to tell from the picture how far away it is, if the worktop is nearer then I'd want it there instead. Also, would somebody at the sink be in the way when opening the oven?

chopc · 19/05/2019 08:31

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo the sink by the window will be 700mm
The one on the island will be a small one for the hot water tap and because I have had two sinks in my current kitchen which I have found to be extremely useful

I'd love to have 2 sinks, but having enough difficulty finding space for one!
If you make island one level and lose a couple of bar stools, you could add enough additional storage to lose the 2 wall cabinets on either side of the extractor.
There's something very luxurious about a wall devoid of wall cabinets - it says "I have so much storage elsewhere, I don't need cabinets here"!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 19/05/2019 08:58

I mean additional storage in the island

pelirocco123 · 19/05/2019 09:10

What's behind the tall units ? Is it appliances or storage ? I think I've noticed you have a corner larder cupboard they are huge we are having one in our new kitchen .The oven isn't at the ideal height , but its higher then convential ovens , we will have the same problem with ours as side by side wasn't an option with the layout we preferred. The only thing that may bother me is the sink up against the side of the cupboard and i prefer a 1 and a half sink , side by side , but you need the space next to the hob.I quite like the split level island , more storage means more crap you store.

chopc · 19/05/2019 09:11

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo if I get rid of those where would I have my spices etc for cooking? I suppose I could have them in a shallow drawer underneath the hob

I have no wall units- oils at al are in a drawer next to the cooker.

Lose the wall units if you can. You can get lots more storage out of your island. This kind of shape means you can have pan drawers one side and then 300mm infrequent storage behind the bar stools. You can create a chunky look with plinths.

@pelirocco123 only saw your message now. Next to the oven tower will be fridge and freezer - prob integrated larder ones

I’m not sure if this would work for you but I have my hob on a very large island. It’s 1300 wide. In that way you look out towards your guests and family. I would then have a large sink (double) where you have the hob at the moment. You can then get pan drawers and waste bins in the island where you can prep food. This means you free up the space next to the ovens.

I’m not against wall cupboards. Only you can decide what you need to store. However, if you do away with the seating and breakfast bar (you have seating nearby) you could get lots of storage where the breakfast bar is. Or at least reduce the seating and have it at one end - not the oven end!

chopc · 20/05/2019 20:53

@BubblesBuddy would love to have job on the island but it is only 180cm wide ........... I thought I will do most of the prep on the island therefore will be facing the room most of the time anyway ?

OP posts:
BubblesBuddy · 20/05/2019 21:19

Yes I think that works too! My island is 3500 x 1300 and has the wide hob, prep space and then a prep sink at one end. Circular offset breakfast bar at the other. My double sink is where your hob is. I couldn’t work out how long your island was. It is nice to face people - a bit like chefs do when they demonstrate!
