Can anyone advise on living in Swanwick near Ripley and Alfreton. We are moving to Derby with a four year old and a one year old in the next few months and have found a house in the area that looks nice. My wife doesn't drive so would need public transport to go to work and drop the kids at school. Any advise on this would be great.

I live extremely close! As far as ex-mining towns and villages go in the area, its one of the more desirable places to live. The primary and secondary school are both Good and houses tend to be ‘nice’ there. Ther isn’t a huge amount there in terms of amenities...I think there’s a Dentist, hairdressers, pubs, a lovely coffee shop, Chinese takeaway, chip shop and a convenience store. There’s a great bus service and the towns of alfreton and. Ripley are yonly 5-10 mins away and Derby about 40.

Does anyone know anything about the schools in Swanwick and Alfreton. Croft in Alfreton was given a rating of outstanding in 2007 but hasn't been inspected since, Copthorn was inspected a few years ago and was given a rating of good, however we have been told to avoid all schools in Alfreton. We live in London and we are moving up in a few weeks so know nothing about the schools in the area. Any help would be appreciated.
