Where to live? Wilmslow, Bramhall or Altrincham/Hale

Hi

We are eager to move and, whilst we know there are plenty of wonderful places to live in South Manchester, we are specifically looking at Bramhall, Wilmslow and Hale/Altrincham.

We are expecting our first baby and my husband works from home. We are looking for a family friendly place to live, good schools, and somewhere with nice places to eat/socialise.

We need somewhere with a garden and parking.

Green space/parks in the area is key for us - we love walking with our dog and hope to continue that as a family.

Does anyone have experience in these areas and can you advise on which one would be preferable? We love Hale/Altrincham but given our budget we think it might be too pricey. We are struggling to know the difference between Bramhall and Wilmslow from a pros and cons perspective.

Our budget is £400-£450k.

Thank you

😊

I'm in South Manchester and out of your choices Altrincham is definitely the best option. I went to school there and all the schools are great and the town centre is improving. Hale is nice but very over priced and quite out of the way to the rest of Manchester. Wilmslow is again nice but so expensive for what you get. Have you considered Urmston? Urmston is great - Some of the best schools in the area, lots of parks, lots of indi restaurants, bars and shops and SO much more for your money than the Cheshire end of Manchester. For what it's worth, I live in Urmston and still go to Alty regularly - it's only a 15 minute drive - Hope this is helpful :)

I like Wilmslow! Lovely dog walking areas in The Carrs, Styal, Alderley Edge or a bit further to White Nancy/Teggs Nose/Macc Forest.

My dsis lives there and rates the schools. She chose there for the comprehensives rather than the grammars in Trafford.

I live in Timperley which is next to Altrincham. I love it here. Great schools, lovely community. You’d get something nice for your budget. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these areas to be honest. Lots of access to green spaces, beaches within an hour. I would think wilmslow & bramhall & Hale would be more expensive than Altrincham & timperley. Have you considered Lymm? Lovely there too.
