Farnham vs Fleet

Hi mumsnetters
I need some help. We're looking to move out of London and have found decent houses to buy in both Farnham and Fleet. I'm in a quandary as I don't know the towns particularly well. I've heard schools are very good in both towns. What I want to know more about is

1. what is the community like?
2. are there good facilities - e.g. fitness.
3. we're going to get a dog - does Fleet have decent places to walk a dog? What about South Farnham?
4. does either town have a decent choir I could join?
5. what about extra curricular type activities for the kids - gymnastics / rugby / music?

Would love to hear your opinion if you live in either area. Many thanks in advance.

I grew up in Farnham having moved from Fleet and if I could choose it would always be Farnham. Prettier town. Lovely countryside all around and so many footpaths (Frensham Ponds, Puttenham Common, Bourne Woods, Tilford etc). South Farnham and Weydon Schools are fantastic - as is the 6th form college. Lots and lots going on for kids, including the amazing Farnham Youth Choir. Sure to be a number of good adult choirs www.choirs.org.uk/england.htm have 7 listed. There's a Leisure Centre and lots going on at the Maltings. Fleet is nice too, but a bit more suburban although the canal is lovely.

Don't know about schools but the areas around Farnham are amazing for walking as the above poster says. I like Farnham as a town too, it's somewhere we've thought about moving too.

I grew up in Fleet but my parents now live in Farnham. Except for the choir (I have no idea there!) you’ll get everything on your list in both but Farnham is a considerably nicer town and I’d chose it over Fleet every time. The only real advantage of Fleet would be that they have more fast trains to London.
