Looking to sort garden end of May. Currently post builders it’s just a giant mud patch. So do we seed or turf? Going to landscape it properly when work out what we want/where the sun is etc, but until then going to grass the lot. Garden maybe roughly 10m by 8/10m

How long before you can use turf. And with seed I’m guessing we’d get a lot of weeds to have to pick up. Can’t use any weed killer due to pets.

Seed and water (and a couple of months) is cheap. As you say you need to remove weeds as it grows. Also if the soil is poor the grass won't grow brilliantly.

Turf costs more but comes with some top soil which can help.

Both will need water, and both get weeds though!

I did seed because it was less hassle than buying and laying turf for me.

Instant lawn - use turf. Use seed if you can wait and re seed if you get bare patches. Sometimes turf shrinks so use topsoil and seed to fill in the gaps. Keep watering in the evening if there’s s dry spell. Warmer weather with some rain promotes growth but boiling hot weather is a problem for any new lawn. We have reseeded a patch this weekend so hoping for rain and warmth! Whichever you choose, prepare the ground. It should be capable of draining and be s sived soil if possible. No lumps and bumps.

Depends. If you have kids then definitely turf. It's easy to lay and you can start using it within 3 weeks. Grass seed lawn takes 6-9 weeks to be ready for use. Both require similar prep,
