Pest visitors every few months

Why oh why do we keep getting mice every few months
There's literally no food source, they do not enter any of the cupboards to eat nor have I noticed any other damage. It's as if they just pop in for a quick nose around. I
no longer have a kitchen bin (take rubbish out daily) The kitchen is cleaned every evening including floors and food is not eaten anywhere else in the house.
I'm going insane without sounding dramatic the constant stress is making me feel ill (I don't know why I'm so terrified of them)
I'd love to pack my bags.
What am i doing wrong , I've also sealed any obv holes they seem to be around central heating pipes.

Could it be that they are actually living in your house permanently, it's just that you only notice their presence every so often?

Mice will keep using and returning to a nest site that they consider to be safe and secure, even if they have to go and seek food elsewhere.

I have an old house and mice live in the roof in winter. I guess because it’s warm. I can sometimes hear them at night. But there's no trace of them downstairs so I just let them get on with it.

I worried about wiring for a while but I check for sign of damage and the worst I’ve found is some shredded newspaper.

The plug in sonic deterants seem to work well here but you'd need one in each room.

I moved from a house where we could hear movement in the attic all through the night for years. We were too chicken to go and look. When we moved we found that rats had been up there the whole time and had demolished everything up there ( cot mattress baby walker and toys etc etc). They never once came into the tiny house and fortunately only caused damage to items that could be replaced. I do feel for you but the mice must be getting in and out somehow to feed I’d imagine. I’m so sorry that I don’t know what to suggest except for traps which I know isn’t always a popular thing here

Stick some traps down, baited with peanut butter.

The "little nipper" style ones are best as they kill the mouse quickly, and are so cheap that if you're squeamish you can just throw them out after one use.
