Hi,
Does anyone have an ac unit in a conservatory. Ours was to hot today and I was thinking about having one fitted. What did it cost? Does it actually keep it cool? What style do you have?

I wouldn't recommend it, the problem with conservatories is they are like sitting in the sun but with most of the heat being retained. Solar gain can be thousands of watts even in a small space and using electricity to move that much energy would be prohibitively expensive for the unit and the power.
It would be more economical to get one of those roof shade things and also leave all the doors and windows it has open, although the heat input would still overwhelm the heat loss.
Three solution we went for was to demolish and replace with a proper extension!

I just have the doors open between the conservatory and the house and the garden and it's blooming lovely in mine this afternoon (I use the conservatory as an office/woman cave which therefore means the entire bloody household congregate in it to pester me ) Our roof isn't glazed though - it's some opaque structure which gives it a bit of shade going on.

I'm considering an A/C unit for the bedroom as often garden noise means having the windows open and actually getting a night's sleep in there is a ruddy pain in the arse.

An extension would be great but practically that's some way in the future. We already have fans and all the windows open.
