Any locksmiths on here? Replacing UPVC multipoint lock.

Hi,

I have UPVC French doors on the back of my house, recently the lock mechanism jammed in the lock position and I had to have an emergency locksmith come out to open it. This was through insurance via my bank so was a temporary fix where be completely remove the bottom half of the lock and put temporary locks on the door.

I was just wondering how much it costs to replace the whole mechanism or if it is worth completely replacing the doors (as the emergency man suggested). They are basic UPVC doors that you find in B&Q etc.

Our patio/ french upvc door latch/ lock broke once. We just used a yale one from wilckes I think. removed old, put in new.

We recently had the whole thing replaced on ours and the doors adjusted so it is as new and it was £75. Was expecting it to be much more. We're in the NW.

We had this problem, DH looked on line and found that there’s a little place along the door mechanism where you should put oil, from time to time. We did this with all our UPVC French windows they now work perfectly.
I’d tell more detail but DH is out at the moment.

The multipoint locking mechanism is not very expensive.

I'd go for your local specialist in plastic doors and windows (there will be at least one, because they are relatively troublesome) who should recognise the make and model and know how to repair it.

They seem to be independent tradesment who have often worked for replacement window companies and branched out on their own. Ask around for a personal recommendation from someone you know. Advertising websites are not personal recommendations, despite their trading names.
