Moving to Ascot

Looking to move to the area. Any advice as to which areas are good.

Not sure Ascot itself would be the best place, since apart from good schools and the races there is nothing much else to do. Can expect my teenagers will get bored pretty soon.

Want to be close to London for jobs, but not too built up area. Close to facilities.

Have been eyeing up area such as Chobham, Marlow, Old Windsor, Dachet, Virginia Water etc.

Anyone from the area who could make suggestions?

Ascot's alright, but its pretty much merged into Martin's Heron and then Bracknell, so may as well live in Bracknell! Not much for teenagers to do. Slow train to London. High Street due to be improved, redeveloped soon I think.

We're in VW, its pretty but its a village, no pubs, our local shop closes at 7, no busses, def not good for teenagers.

We liked Old Windsor, seemed to be cheaper than Windsor, nice high street with several pubs etc. Can walk into Windsor for the station (30mins walk?) Loads of busses.

Dachet and Windsor we discounted because of Heathrow noise.

Thank you ploeb. I suppose VW would be too quiet for the growing teenagers. Had forgotten that Datchet, although lovely, is on the same flight path as Windsor. That’s what put me off Windsor in the first place. Old Windsor sounds nice. It’s not so far from the rest. I will take a look around.

Bracknell Town centre has been completely regenerated and is great now.

So the surrounding areas are good, Warfield, Binfield and the like. Lots of new developments in the area.

It's not the crappy old town it once was.

Great for growing teenagers.

Thanks for the link. It looks promising. I had heard some bad things about Bracknell. Hopefully you are right that it is now better with the regeneration. 👍
