Yale night latch door lock help please

So we finally completed on our first house purchase yesterday. There are two locks - porch and door. I want to know if anyone has experience of changing the locks on their own. Could any one tell me if the door lock is a nightlatch and if I should buy a 60mm replacement Yale latch. Also I have no idea what’s the porch lock type called. Could someone please help a novice diy-we?

That white one is a nightlatch type. Very old fashioned. You want to be swapping it with something British Standard compliant (drill proof). Like this Yale one

You’ll need to measure to see which one you need.

The 60mm or 40mm sizes refer to the distance of the external keyhole from the edge of the door. You’ll need to measure your door/current set up to see what you need.

Porch lock looks like a standard sashlock. There is a British Standard for that too.

Other companies make these locks to the BS too but there are also nightlatch and sash locks that aren’t British Standard. I’d avoid those.

Ignore the measuring guide I linked to, that’s for a specific kind of lock system Yale make.

I think it may well be a night latch one that you have. I am assuming it is called that because you can put the white button down into lock mode when you are in, and no-one can get in from the outside.
