Proof of address etc

Hi, my partner and I are going to be starting the process of buying a house hopefully in the next few weeks. We're first time buyers so I've been researching as much as I can about what we need to do.

One thing I'm stuck on is the providing proof of address paperwork for getting a mortgage. Sources online say you need to provide utility bills, but both my partner and I still live with our parents so we don't pay any bills except for credit card and mobile phone. What else could we use? We have frequent letters from barclaycard and thats about it.

Also, will a provisional driving license be enough as Photo ID?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have bank statements? CRB check?

DemonicEruption · 04/04/2019 09:18

@bsc We have online only bank statements. No CRB checks as never required one. Can anyone get one?

Ask HMRC to send you a letter confirming your national insurance number .

Your driving license has your address on it.

If your parents have the same address as you then they might accept a utility bill.

Polling card?

Do you own a car? The address will be on the documents.

Ditto your car insurance certificate .

Concat your bank and tell them you want to switch to paper statements.

I think you can print off bank statements at the bank. Your provisional driving license would be ok too.

PDF of bank statement is widely accepted

DemonicEruption · 04/04/2019 09:26

Thanks all. We don't have a car. I didnt know you could use a polling card. I'll probably go for the letter from HMRC. I was under the impression you needed multiple forms of address/ID so I presumed just our provisionals would not be enough. Grin

this shows what is legally acceptable as proof of address. You need to scroll down to 'for individuals'. It's because of the money laundering regulations. Your NHS card or prof of addesss from NHS body is one for example, driving licence, passport, stuff from HMRC. You just can't use one thing for both ID and address
