Gas

DH and I are moving into a property without gas. Has anyone had experience on how much it would cost to get gas put in, how much upheaval it is and if gas central heating is better or as good as gas?

I mean, is electric heating is as good as gas?

My old maisonette was electric only. Was easier to heat a specific room rather than whole house, we did have storage heaters but due to a supplier mix up we had to get rid. Wasn't too bad, with a key meter we payed around £20/25 a week for a 3 bedroom.

Is there gas running along the road outside your house? The cost depends on whether you ask them to dig the trench or you do it yourself assuming it's there. You can email them to ask

Energy from electricity costs three or four times as much as energy from gas.

Storage heaters are not too bad if you are home all day and go to bed early.

it's rare to find a house where gas is available in the street outside but has not been connected to the house. It is sometimes necessary when an occupant has no sense of smell.

Our house had gas in the street - previous owners didn't want to pay for installation when they had a perfectly good oil boiler. ..
