Can Sellers Directly Contact Buyers?

This is not me but my sister has just had a shock that the vendors of the house she is buying turned up at her doorstep to pressure her to complete!

It’s all in solicitors hands and there are issues with the house that needs sorting before my sister can complete- she also needs the money from her house which is due to come through end of this month.

Is this allowed surely it’s unethical and I wonder if the estate agent breached GDPR as how would they know my sisters address?

I wouldn’t mind an email but I would seriously seriously mind someone turning up on my doorstep! WOuldn’t her address be on solicitors paperwork?

It wouldn’t really put me off

Your sister's address would be on the contract and on the sales memorandum but agree that this behaviour is not acceptable.

Your sister should let her solicitor and EA know that the vendor came to the house to pile on the pressure, then her solicitor and the EA can inform that vendor's solicitor that the vendor should not approach your sister in this way again.

If there are still legal issues to be sorted then no amount of pressure that will make this transaction go any faster.

She is contacting her solicitors today. It was just a shock as she wasn’t expecting it but hopefully the solicitors can step in.

I have advised her that no one other than her solicitor should be contacting her and if anyone does then to refer to her solicitors.

She is desperate to move herself as splitting with husband, so is keen to complete but not until the solicitor says all good and divorce money comes through at end of the month.

At no point has a completion date been discussed yet until she was suddenly told by the seller needs it through next week!

Hopefully the solicitor can smooth it over or she will let it fall through.
