Looking for good bolt for bathroom door

Looking for a normal chrome bolt like this: Bright Chrome Plate Heavy Duty Sliding Door Bolt 100mm www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B002Q0JXI2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fHFOCbXMX2SX7?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-property-3548238-Looking-for-good-bolt-for-bathroom-door" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/dp/B002Q0JXI2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fHFOCbXMX2SX7
But this one and the ones at B&Q have bad reviews, saying they broke easily. Could anyone recommend one, please? Thanks!

is the door hollow, or solid wood?

if hollow, look on the top edge - is there a stamp saying "lock block" and is it on the side where the handle is?

Bolts like this are fine as long as there are no young or elderly people using the bathroom. Safety bolts on modern door knobs can be opened from the outside in an emergency.
Years ago DH and friend had to access a bathroom lock, by cutting a hole through the stud wall on the hall side so they could put a hand through and open the bolt. The friend’s 5 year old had bolted the door and couldn’t open it.

Thank you for the replies. @PigletJohn The door is hollow. I’ll check for a stamp; what would lock block mean?

Hollow doors are made of air with a thin decorative skin or hardboard or ply. They usually include a piece of scrap timber under the skin about half way up one side so you can drill into it to fix a latch or lock and handles.

There is a " bathroom mortice bolt" that can be fitted into the edge of the door, with a thumb turn on the inside and an emergency release on the outside.

It doesn't matter that a bathroom bolt is weak, it is only a notional fastener. If you have a door made of air it will give way to a strong kick or shoulder barge. The type of bolt in your link will do the same and might save the expense of a new door after being forced. It is not designed to keep Oscar Pictorius out.

Thanks for your reply. I am indeed looking for a bolt that just prevents people from accidentally walking in on others in the bathroom! The reviews of the one in my link said the knob soon snapped off (my understanding is that this was just in the course of normal use, not as a result of someone trying to force their way into the bathroom!).

The Screwfix one has good reviews though.

Screwfix sets the "sort" on their reviews to "best first" (high to low)
If you change it to "low to high" (worst first) you will see a different view. It's probably the same as the Amazon one.

I prefer this sort of thing

The Altro ones seem very good. They have a snap action like a lock. The 8mm spindle is probably better than the 5mm version.

Thank you!
