Sofa.com Sofas - would you recommend them

Have found some old threads about Sofa.com but wonder if anyone has more recent experiences.

I am thinking about the Izzy sofa. I am not sure about the pleating on the arms of some of the other models and hoping the stitched arms of the Izzy will be OK.

In terms of material I cant decide between the smart velvet, wool marl and smart linen.

Any advice, personal experiences or recommendations regarding both the most comfortable model and best fabric would be really appreciated.

We’ve got 4 sofa.com sofas bought incrementally and happy with them all. We’ve got the Izzy in dark grey velvet and it does get complimented for looks. We have a snowdrop and an Isla both of which I’d say are marginally more comfortable but I do like the appearance of the izzy and the fact the dimensions are a little bit smaller.

Thanks mysteryfairy.

Would you know if your dark grey velvet is the colour ‘Armour’ ? I am looking for a dark blue / grey. That colour looks blue in the showroom but the sample is grey in my room.

We have just bought a dark grey cotton velvet from Descartes sofa from sofa.com and we really like it. I think I would have preferred Prussian blue but we go ours on a special offer.

It is very comfortable and appears to be well built. It has also withstood coffee being split on it and cleaned up completely. I think the colour helps. It is worth going to try them at a showroom if you can.

Ps. Our sofa colour is Elephant grey cotton velvet

We have a couple of Izzy's one is a massive corner and it's in smart velvet, so far it's been great, the other is a 2.5 seater in a cotton velvet which shows marks and stains, it's about 3/4 years old. I would recommend and I would buy more from them too.... however they are quite expensive and you can often wangle a discount! Don't get a non-smart material if you have kids!

We’ve got the Snowdrop sofa in sage. Had it for a year and love it, but I wish I had gone for a darker colour. My cat has muddy paws.

mimibunz · 31/03/2019 21:20

We got smart velvet too!

mysteryfairy · 31/03/2019 22:27

Ours is the elephant non smart version I think...it’s very dark. We do have an inky blue sofa in the same room and like to think they go together. Think the blue one might be called ink.

Our snowdrop is wool which felt itchy at first but has been hard wearing.

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 31/03/2019 23:23

Great to hear such good reviews. Thank you.

After a long discussion with the lady at Sofa.com today, I think I might go for either the wool or linen. She suggested the Velvet might not be as hard wearing.

I have missed this discount window, but need to go and sit on one before ordering, so just hope there will be more discounts at Easter

I think sofa.com originally set out their stall as not having constant sales and discounting. However they do virtually permanently have either 15% or 20% off now and often have free fabric protection on top for a few days too. Definitely hang on!

I have to say too that though we ordered our first two sofas online sight a trip to the showroom did change our thinking on what to order for the last room we did. Isla was not near the top of my list but DH just so preferred it to sit on that comfort ended up overriding aesthetics.

I have a chair and ottoman in armour. It’s a beautiful blue, subdued blue and a bed in grey squirrel. . Love sofa.com products but had absolutely dreadful, dreadful problems with their courier, DX. They really messed us around, lost our order, it was a shambles so I’d never ever use them again which is such a shame but i cant take the risk.

DameXanaduBramble · 01/04/2019 08:51

We have smart velvet, its brill. I also have a butterscotch footstool and it cleans up beautifully.

I have had a corner sofa from sofa.com for a couple of years, it is good looking but not great for support and comfort! I did not think of that when buying, and it’s hard to tell in a showroom for a few minutes. Just recently I realised my neck and back pain was due to spending longer on it than normal. So I decided to looked inside the back cushions by unpicking the seam, and was shocked to find cheap fibre filling in the top compartment, there are 3. The label says filling is 50% duck feather 50% goose feather but not true! I am thinking complaining as this seems illegal? Anyone else have any experience of checking the filling? If it is really well stuffed with just feather it would be better.

isn't sofa.com owned by the same person who owns Sports Direct? That in itself puts me off.

Therealone · 03/01/2021 18:13

We've got two islas in the brushed linen cotton and I love them. Has them five years now.

We wanted the smart velvet but a salesman in the showroom poured coffee on a smart velvet sample to demonstrate it's stain resistance, the coffee sunk in immediately! He was shocked and said it must be a faulty sample, it put us off! So do test the sample.
