Can you repair scratches in Stainless steel?

We had a brand new SS sink. A few days later another trades person has come to do another job and there are a number of mostly shallow scratches, one or two points its deeper. The advice on line seems to be to sand it but I can't see how that doesn't just make it worse.

I'd rather fix it if possible than complain as otherwise all the workmen have done a great job.

Has anyone done this or any other method and its actually worked?

If you have brushed stainless, you can rub it with nylon pan scourers. Only to and fro in the direction of the factory brushed finish, never in circles which will show.

The white scourers are softer and finer, so try them first. The green ones are coarser.

I wouldn't recommend sandpaper.

If you have mirror-finish stainless, you are doomed.

Thanks, I think we are doomed. I finally found some manufacturer instructions and they say that scratches appear very noticeable at first but over time a patina develops and they become less obvious. I interpret that to mean over time it gets lightly scratched all over so it won't be so noticeable.

Actually, we came across a product online that works on stainless steel. I wouldn't recommend sandpaper or scourer pads, they seemed to only make new scratches we could see. It's from a company called Barry's Restore It All Products. They have videos showing how to use their kits as well. So far we've been super happy with the results!
