Best paint for old pine kitchen cabinet

Rather than buy a new kitchen or change the cabinets i'm thinking of painting the cabinets instead. Can anyone recommend a good durable paint that works best on pine cabinets? And the best paint to avoid!

You need to treat knots and use a primer. You need to prevent any brown colour grinning through. You then need an undercoat. I would then use an eggshell paint. Durable and washable.

I refurbished an old French wardrobe. I spent so much time prepping the wood and used a farrow and ball eggshell paint and primer (2 coats primer then 2 coats paint). For a bit of fun and contrast, I decided to paint the inside using a cheap furniture paint with no prep apart from washing the wood down. The finish was better than the outside Confused

Link below to what I used - I'll be using it again in the future when I have something nice to paint.

I disagree that Rustoleum furniture paint is cheap - it's just sold in small containers and cheaper than Farrow and Ball!

I've painted quite a bit of stuff, from a dark wood varnished fire surround to untreated MDF shelves. You need a good primer - I've used Zinsser and they do one for bare wood and one for wood that has already been treated in some way. Knotting is easier to find in ironmongers than DIY sheds ime, but worth using on knots in pine before an overall primer. I use a gloss roller on flat areas for the best finish and I like satinwood or the Rustoleum satin finish furniture paint. The Rustoleum has given our pantry shelves a really durable finish - I'm impressed by how hard wearing it is.
