Some nice villages but on the whole it's very isolated and deprived due to pit closures.

Its fine - id look at nearby villages if youre looking to move rather than the towns though

HaventGotAllDay · 14/03/2019 12:44

Look at Berry Hill/Church Ave area of Mansfield or villages between Mansfield and Nottm like Ravenshead, Linby, Papplewick etc.

Mansfield itself is v run down and needs a hefty regeneration. Clipstone and the other ex mining villages are dead ducks.

Very good if you are at all out-doorsy or have a dog. Miles of walkable countryside.. rufford abbey..major oak (Robin hoods tree lol).. clumber park..sherwood pines etc all close by. Decent enough shopping opportunities in mansfield and close enough to Nottingham city. Close to the M1.

The places you’ve mentioned are old pit villages so I’d avoid all of them, rough and ready Mansfield is larger bit imo not a nice place to live either, very run down.

However there are lots of lovely villages found that way, that are nice places to live.

Edwinstowe
Walesby
Tuxford
East Markham
Wellow
And all the small ones in between.

Or you could move closer to Nottingham, places such as
Burton Joyce
Southwell
And again some lovely villages close by.

Loads of lovely rural places close by to spend time in. Sheffield and Leeds are close by too

Clumber park
Rufford park
Center parcs

Aaah Rufford Park, so many happy memories. Hope you find the perfect spot. The area certainly varies between deprived and delightful.

Have seen you on the local Facebook group OP Smile I live in the village and am not originally from here. The best things going for it are the amazing countryside, cheap houses and good transport links. Not all of it is run down - some villages have their nice areas, including Warsop! There are certain areas to avoid, - if you PM me with the location of any houses you are shortlisting I will tell you my opinion - the problem with asking on the Facebook group is that most of those people live in those areas and so can't be independent!

we had a look at warsop today....as you saw on fb! we had a look a lovely town house on reef close, ocean drive bracken close. I say look...I mean we looked from the car! ocean drive (or whatever its called) lovely estate. bit worried as we 2 cars. and it looked a bit snarled up for parking.... place on the whole didnt look bad!

moving to Alfreton derby whats it like any clues / tips

clary · 17/03/2019 19:10

Alfreton is quite under resourced and lacking in investment. I imagine property is cheap tho.

For a town near Derby I would prefer Belper, more facilities, better school, got a really nice feel, nice indie cinema etc.
