Talk me out of having a Quooker

New kitchen plans underway.
I'd love a QUOOKER but they are not cheap!

Please convince me that I'd don't really need one.

If it makes any difference, we are only a 2 person household but we do drink a lot of tea!

I've got a Perrin & Rowe which is at 98 degrees. Less spitting from the tap. I adore it and will never go back to a kettle!!

HappyGirl86 · 13/03/2019 18:17

I can help you! I have one and I don't like it! I find it hard to turn the tap, fill a pan and not burn myself on the boiling water. Just read that back to myself and it's surprising I can survive in the world haha!
I just prefer a kettle! My husband really likes it though and thinks it was money well spent.
My mum has one that you can turn on, take your hand off, fill pan/mug and then turn it off again. That seems much better.
Whereas ours you have to hold on, if that makes sense.

Sorry, OP, we've had a quooker for about 3 months now and I love it.

Just get one, you know you want to Grin

I considered it when the stylish De Longhi kettle broke (2nd one), but decided upon a Dualit kettle instead which I really like

I can buy many many designer kettles for price of a Quooker.

Franke boiling water tap is fab because it is boiling water not nearly, and the boiler doesn’t take up too much space and was about half the price of a quooker. Just get a boiling water tap!

MaybeitsMaybelline · 14/03/2019 07:18

Sorry. It I can’t put you off it. I have had one for eight years and it recently had an intermittent fault. Those two weeks until their service man could attend were awful. We use ours for everything from filling a bucket, to making numerous hot drinks a day, to filling pans when cooking, to using a splash on a paper towel and shining up my surfaces.

Boiling a kettle no longer cuts it.

The after service is also very very good. They will still try their utmost to repair an appliance as old as mine, and they did. A new filter and a new element and valve and it is like new.

The service man said I will easily get another five years out of it.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 14/03/2019 07:23

Just to add I have only had two filters in eight years BUT I live in a very soft water area. Maybe the OP lives in a very limey area, that would be a good reason not to get one. Possibly.

@HappyGirl86 which one does your mum have please? I’ve been looking for that feature!

We are getting a separate hot water tap (Quooker Solo) as the all-in-one taps mean you can’t have eg one person making a cup of tea at the same time as the other is washing up. So OP, if you would want an all-in-one I guess that’s a downside.

BasiliskStare · 14/03/2019 18:04

@minipie if I have understood you correctly - our Quooker is a separate tap - so someone can put the normal tap on at the same time.

Having a Quooker integrated with the normal tap over kitchen sink would be witchcraft & I could never recommend that. Separate kitchen sink tap & Quooker tap - yes I will stand up for.

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/03/2019 18:42

Ours is combined, which is what I like about it! Was added afterwards so just replaced the original tap with it.

BasiliskStare · 14/03/2019 19:53

@Mustbetimeforachange Blush - I am clearly behind the times - we have 2 separate ones - well there you go - but then I remember when BBC 2 went off after crown court at lunch time and didn't go back on again until the evening ( i.e. I am rubbish ) Grin

So I personally would not get one which is part of the main tap. As a separate thing - I am a fan.

minipie · 14/03/2019 20:49

Basilisk I agree with you but most of the hot water taps on the market seem to be all in ones these days! Maybe because people like the neatness of just one tap, or because of the extra cost of getting the Quooker and a separate tap too. Indeed many of the rival brands only make all in one taps.

BasiliskStare · 14/03/2019 21:00

@minipie - you see this is where I may need to retreat. & I think I am agreeing with you - a separate hot water tap - yes I stand behind my recommendation - if people don't want it then absolutely fine by me. One single tap to do hot & cold normal water & the boiled water thing as well in one tap - well that I can't see the point of. What is the point of having instant boiling water if you have to wait for people to fill up their bottles of water for the gym , get themselves some elderflower cordial , rinse out a small pan where scrambled eggs may have been made whilst you are waiting for your boiling water - For me - that is a tap too far. I'll stand by a Quooker and yes fine by those who don't would love to see the pretty kettles , but only one tap. ? I am sure I am getting old but that's not even practical ? Is it? Grin - A tap too far.
