Talk me out of having a Quooker

New kitchen plans underway.
I'd love a QUOOKER but they are not cheap!

Please convince me that I'd don't really need one.

If it makes any difference, we are only a 2 person household but we do drink a lot of tea!

I wish we had one. We moved to a new house where there was one but the tank has a hole and so can’t use it and it’s expensive to replace - unless anyone knows a clever way?

First few posters - not helping!

Thank you to the others re warning about cost of filters and reliability

Quooker insist that their water really is 100 degrees.
Some other hot taps are only 96 or so

Tacky.

PCohle · 12/03/2019 11:48

My parents have one and despite all guarantees to the contrary it's just not quite boiling. It also breaks down all the time and the upkeep is expensive.

As they get older I do worry about the safety aspects of it too.

littlewoollypervert · 12/03/2019 11:54

We have them in work. Constantly breaking, water not quite boiling, weird scum on the surface (they are prob not changing the filter as often as they should). I always liked the idea of them but they are no longer on my kitchen wishlist - I'd prefer a nice kettle!

1sttimeDD · 12/03/2019 12:02

....think of all the biscuits you could be grazing on whilst waiting for the kettle to boil! Wink

Pretty much the only reason I can think of - I love mine!

CoperCabana · 12/03/2019 12:11

I have the cheaper Insinkerator version. Not quite boiling hot. Bit of moaning from DH about the tea initially but not enough to go back to a kettle. Other tea drinkers seem fine given how many cups of the stuff they drink at mine!

I have only changed the filter once in 2 years and it cost £40.

I had that Bosch kettle and I would choose a hot tap over it.

We've had our Quooker for a few years now. Love it, it gives cold, hot and boiling water. It's safe as to get boiling we've to click down and twist. It may depend on the water in your area regarding how many filters and breakdowns it has. Don't want to speak to soon but we've had no issues so far with it.

peeree · 12/03/2019 12:15

I love our hot water tap which gives us hot and cold filtered water. Had it five years and no issues. If it broke tomorrow I'd get an immediate replacement.

peeree · 12/03/2019 12:16

...oh and I replace the filter every 6 months. £24 from Amazon.

Longdistance · 12/03/2019 12:26

We have a cheaper vesion here at work. It’s fabulous! Sorry op 🤷🏼‍♀️

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 12/03/2019 12:33

With Quooker filters, how do you know when to change them?

LagoDiComo · 12/03/2019 12:34

Easily the most expensive thing in our kitchen - cheap units and worktops (mainly due to sealing on house price) - but we love it. Also a household of two. Hate clutter on the worktop. Had it a few years and no issues yet but would pay to repair and replace

Mustbetimeforachange · 12/03/2019 12:44

I change ours when the tea starts to look scummy. When they fit it they test the water & tell you how long it will last. We were told 22 months, based on 3 litres a day, but the tea starts to look scummy at about a year, so we change it then.

PhilipJennings · 12/03/2019 12:48

My kitchen is being fitted tomorrow and there is a box here, delivered today, that says QUOOKER on it. Grin

Every time I've made tea, coffee or pasta for the last six months I've been dreaming of it!

IM0GEN · 12/03/2019 12:53

I’ve had mine for 11 years and I love it. It’s never broken down and has only needed repaired once when a joint became loose and it leaked a bit under the sink.

Im in a soft water area though.

Planeticket · 12/03/2019 12:54

We had a similar one when I was a child and I can think of a couple negatives:

  1. It never seems as hot as water boiled in a kettle, so when you do a pot noodle or something you may have to let it sit longer and still might not be as desired.
  1. If you have young children around it could be a potential accident waiting to happen, when someone turns on the boiling tap to wash hands or something by mistake so you have to keep an eye out for this. I've never had a Quooker branded one though so I'm not sure if that has a child safety lock? You may want to check this.
Sedona123 · 12/03/2019 13:05

I have one and love it. Definitely heats water hot enough for tea or coffee, and has a safety lock on it so very little chance of accidental burning.

scaryteacher · 12/03/2019 13:58

Onalong That bloody kettle leaks like buggery and only lasted me a year. It is also very heavy. I've had more use out of my cheapy Morphy Richards than I did out of my swanky Bosch.

Crankybitch · 12/03/2019 14:19

I have one and love it

grebnew · 12/03/2019 15:10

We've had ours for ten years now... love every day of it. No problems, touch wood!

BasiliskStare · 12/03/2019 15:11

Can't OP - they are fantastic - not just tea and coffee but for cooking e.g. potatoes pasta water all boiled. Saves room on worktop & ours has been v reliable ( 2nd one we have had - in different houses - not because we had to replace it. ) I thought they were a gimmick but now would not be without one. The cheaper / other versions I cannot speak about only Quooker.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 12/03/2019 15:29

Ah bugger.
I'm torn.

circeplease · 12/03/2019 15:31

They are brilliant. Couldn’t do without mine.

How can they be tacky? It’s a functional kitchen appliance Grin
