Talk me out of having a Quooker

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 12/03/2019 11:06

New kitchen plans underway.
I'd love a QUOOKER but they are not cheap!

Please convince me that I'd don't really need one.

If it makes any difference, we are only a 2 person household but we do drink a lot of tea!

They break the whole time. I would never want one

BaaBaaBaaMoo · 12/03/2019 15:39

8 years and brilliant, no problems and never changed the filter! Did not realise it had one but do have our own private soft water supply.

Mummyilovejokes1 · 12/03/2019 19:47

We have one waiting to be installed once the kitchen is fitted, we brought ours on Ebay brand new but was showroom so we got it a couple of hundred cheaper. Cant wait to use it

BigGreenOlives · 12/03/2019 19:59

We’ve had one for 5 years, never had a single problem. It is a Qooker rather than any of the other brands, if you were drunk I don’t think you’d be able to turn it on & a toddler definitely would’ve be able to.

Bloomburger · 12/03/2019 20:01

We've a Franke Omni and love it, filter doesn't need changing too often and I think it may be cheaper than a Quooker.

BaaBaaBaaMoo · 12/03/2019 20:01

I agree much safer than a kettle to pull off a worktop.

Bloomburger · 12/03/2019 20:03

Ours emails you when the filter is coming up for a change and it isn't 100 degrees as it makes shit tea and coffee if it is.

IggyPoppers · 12/03/2019 20:10

I want one but I'll wait until we don't have toddlers. They understand not to touch the kettle but they use the taps to wash their hands etc and I think it would be harder for them to grasp.

Bonkersblond · 12/03/2019 20:16

We're having our kitchen redone and we are getting one, we are getting a Hotspot, which is one of 5 brands along with the Quooker that are actually boiling hot, I can't wait, and also we've been recommended a waste disposal so we won't have a smelly compost bin anymore.

Murinae · 12/03/2019 21:16

We have the cheaper insinkerator and it’s great.

BasiliskStare · 12/03/2019 21:27

Our has a thing where you actually have to push down the handle / knob of the tap so you actually can't turn it on accidentally. (Bit like medicine bottles) We have had one since DS was 5 and no accidents. Also ours ( Quooker ) sprays out the water rather than a stream so not much boiling water before you would realise. I am not the slightest bit concerned about the safety of them. A small child would find it hard to turn on. I agree with other posters , I would be so much less bothered from a safety angle than someone overturning a kettle. There are people who will come and service a Quooker - not a big deal & not very often. Probably cheaper than buying a new kettle.

When I go to my parents I just can't believe I have to pace around for a couple of minutes to get boiling water ( first world problem)

I can't see how they are tacky either - just another tap. I can only repeat when I first found out about them I thought they were a gimmick - I now would not be without one.

The only practical downside is that in your under sink cupboard you will need room for the canister ( whatever it is called ) for the water - but I have a v small kitchen with limited storage and that hasn't been a problem.

Get one OP - you will thank me Grin

All best whatever you do Smile

Mummyshark2018 · 12/03/2019 21:38

Watching with interest as putting in a new kitchen soon. Would love one of these- don't know enough about the different brands but does anyone know if you can get them in copper or black? I don't want chrome as new Kitchen is while high gloss with a copper trim and grey/ black worktops,

Bonkersblond · 12/03/2019 22:07

Mummyshark Hotspot titanium do black Matt, Hotspot is a danish company, they are as good as Quooker.

MrsFezziwig · 12/03/2019 22:19

I decided against one when installing my new kitchen:

  1. there’s only me so limited use
  2. I have used one and I hate the way it spits at you
  3. space needed in the cupboard below for the attached unit

I’m going to treat myself to a designer kettle instead

Jencottage · 12/03/2019 22:20

They are not tacky, it's a lovely solid and stylish tap. So glad we got one when redoing the kitchen.

Mummyshark2018 · 12/03/2019 22:57

Thank you @Bonkersblond I will have a look!

Ooo I wonder what could be contentious on a Quooker thread?

Anyhoo, I think I have decided to treat myself to a swanky new kettle instead, and spend the thousand plus pounds I've saved on some gorgeous new chairs for the kitchen

It was a really obvious ad from a Quooker competitor (I reported).

MrsFezziwig · 13/03/2019 17:25

Would love some kettle recommendations. The Sage one looked nice but have just discovered that my friend has one and it is almost permanently discoloured with limescale on the exterior (which is really difficult to clean off, and she is a domestic goddess).

PurpleWithRed · 13/03/2019 17:30

Sorry, but I love my Quooker. It also supplies hot water to the hot tap in the kitchen to save hot water being drawn down from the tank on the 2nd floor to the kitchen so it has reduced overall hot water costs by loads. I would alway have one in any future kitchen.

prozacgirl · 13/03/2019 17:38

I can't, it's changed my life. Never have to wait for a kettle to boil again. Never have to bring a pan of anything to the boil. It's EXCELLENT

Mrscog · 13/03/2019 17:48

I think they sound rubbish - I sign up to as few things as possible which have ongoing maintenance/filter costs. More hassle!

Ohallright · 13/03/2019 17:57

Sorry op. I did my kitchen, after waiting for 20 years. If I ever have to re-do it, the Quooker is right at the top of the list re things I would do again - regardless of the expense! 😊

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 13/03/2019 18:09

La la la la.
Fingers in ears.

Not listening!
