Worried my roof lantern will be too big!

Can anyone help. I think I might have made an expensive mistake!

We have a 4.7 metre by 3 metre room. It's long and thin with one small window at one end so it's very dark unless we have lights on even in the summer. ( it's a garage conversion which we now have a kitchen in

We ordered a roof lantern and the guy who came to measure said standard sizes were 1 metre wide x 1.5 or 2 metre length

I thought we should go for the 1.5 metre but he suggested 2 metres so I went with it. I'm now worrying that it will be too big and will be like a greenhouse! He said it will be coated in a film to prevent solar glare and our house is north facing but the room runs from north to south

I've tried googling ideal roof lantern sizes for room size but can't find anything helpful

Any advice?

No!!! It’s fine. Mine is 6m x 3.5m. Big room! If it’s too small it has no impact. 1m x 2m sounds good to me.

I have a north facing 3.5m roof light (not a lantern, but similar idea).

I love it. Makes the whole house feel sunny.

Bigger the better. Will make a stunning feature. Quite envious.

No that’s about right, the bigger the better.

When we were trying to pick a size of telly for the aperture in our wall we cut out a bit bit of cardboard the size of the models we were looking at to see what would fit vs what would be ridiculously big. If you're shit at measurements and visualising things like me it really helps to have a frame of reference. Use a child and a broom to hold to it up the ceiling at either end Grin

I think the 1.5m would've looked a bit piddly in a room that length, so 2m is probably right anyway.

I'm jealous, it sounds great!

Sounds completely fine, we have a 1m x 1.5 in a room that's about 3.4 x 2.4 and it doesn't seem too big.
