Is there such a thing as a good quality wood effect vinyl flooring?

When we were at the airport recently there was a flooring in the seating area that looked like wood, was textured like wood but was some sort of vinyl.

What do I need to look for/where do I need to look for something similar?

It's for a hallway - thought it would be easy to maintain and warmer than tiles.

I think generally they're called vinyl tiles. Brands include Karndean and Amtico (sp?) amongst others.

Have a look at luxury vinyl tiles. Wickes have a range by novocore called ascot in many diff colours

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 04/03/2019 18:17

Ah yes, Karndean rings a bell. Thank you.

I'll have a look in Wickes and see what theirs is like. Presumably the brand ones are available in flooring showrooms.

I just want to avoid something that looks cheap IYSWIM but fed up of the upkeep of the real wood floors we have in other areas.

You will have to see it in person to decide if it looks cheap or not... I don’t think the ascot range does

RainbowMum11 · 04/03/2019 18:24

We used Amtico which was slightly cheaper than Karndean but was excellent - warm under foot and much softer than laminate. Real wood in the next house but I was constantly worried about caring for it, spillages, heel marks etc.

I got some from 'Burt's' for my bathroom - was more cheap and cheerful though.

Forgot to say you can order samples.

Goldenbaubles · 05/03/2019 15:13

We have one from Howdens I wish we had it throughout downstairs its excellent

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 05/03/2019 16:01

Goldenbaubles the Howdens one sounds interesting especially as DP has an account with them I think.

Can you remember roughly how much it was as there's no prices on the website?

Also have a look at Harvey Maria's vinyl tiles.

We have karndean in both bathrooms and all downstairs rooms although ours is grey wood they did do all sorts of effects
Doesn’t look cheap very harwaring and easy to keep clean !!
Love it

sugarbum · 05/03/2019 16:47

We also have kardean downstairs. I love it. Apparently you're supposed to look after it with special cleaner, but I'm no good at that. I chose Van Gogh French Oak' .

We got some, looks good although it was fitted by ourselves and there are a few gaps between the boards! Make sure the pattern doesn't repeat too much or it will look cheap... That was my main thought when checking out different brands, the cheaper ones ended up looking stripey due to a smaller number of woodgrain patterns. How that makes sense!

We're having Polyflor Camaro Loc in our kitchen, downstairs loo and then throughout the ground floor. Polyflor is generally considered good value compared to Karndean and Amtico.

Babysharkdododont · 06/03/2019 20:57

I did my entire downstairs in Polyfloor, about 70m2 including kitchen, wc, high traffic areas. It's holding up beautifully, despite us being a very busy household

boredboredboredboredbored · 07/03/2019 07:02

I also used Karndean throughout my hall & into the kitchen. The stuff is brilliant and almost indestructible. Having dropped both a can of paint on it and had a water leak it still looks like new!

We've used the polyflor beveline one through our kitchen diner. Happy with it so far, and so easy to keep clean.

Thank you - loads for me to look into and think about now!
