Can anyone recommend a nice town or village where I can commute to Manchester?

First time buyer so maximum budge it £260,000

Both myself and my partners are looking at buying a house in a nice area where we can both commute in to Manchester preferably within 45 minutes. We have no children yet but hope to in the next 5 years!

Horwich, Bolton, is lovely. There's a few new build estates currently being built. It's a friendly place, just off the motorway with great transport links. I love it here

Link out for flooding in Hebden Bridge

Glossop, so long as you don’t want to drive to commute - the train is very good.

Buckshaw village is a new build area

North Bury or Prestwich both on the Metrolink network so 20-30 minutes commute on the tram

I wouldn't consider Glossop unless you're willing and able to live without a car full stop... the traffic congestion is horrific even just for local journeys.
Also petty crime and general ASBO seems to be very much on the rise in the town and surrounding areas.
The air quality is very poor and the weather is mostly always miserable.

Other than that it's a fine place to live!

Lymm, Knutsford, Wilmslow, Hale, Alderly Edge, didsbury etc but your budget won't go far in those areas.

Urmston and flixton are nice up and coming areas and a very easy commute to the city centre

Warrington / Culcheth / Irlam

Lymm, Knutsford, Wilmslow, Hale, Alderly Edge, didsbury etc but your budget won't go far in those areas - agree. Lovely areas but v v v expensive (Alderley Edge has the highest proportion of millionaires outside London I think. Google milllionaire’s row AE..)

If you are flexible with location, look north and east. Tameside and surrounding has a slightly rubbish rep, but there’s lots of regeneration happening.

Tram goes out to bury in the north.

Good motorway networks but busy and the city centre is a nightmare to drive. (Warrington/grappenhall is lovely - but the m62 into Manchester is dire).

Frodsham or Mickle Trafford?
