Smell of cannabis in house and it’s not me!

My house every evening smells of cannabis mostly in the dining area and kitchen. Tonight I went to bring in the bins and could smell in the street outside too. I moved in last summer and am aware one of the neighbours smokes a lot (in the summer they were smoking in the garden). I’m in a terrace and they are 2 doors along.

Is there anything I can do about this. I obviously don’t want to fall out with my neighbours but it’s virtually every day. Also summer barbecues will be interesting!

They're not growing it as well are they? Have you checked whether the loft space is properly separated from your neighbours? It's a fire risk if it isn't, but if they are smoking indoors and growing the stuff, it would explain the strong smell. Have you spoken with the neighbour in the middle house about it at all?

cat piss? or fox piss?
both smell weedy.

Bluesheep8 · 27/02/2019 10:43

Yep, they may well be growing. In the loft. Speak to the neighbour in between your houses.

Have you got cellars? Once lived in a flat that was a converted terraced house & had an awful smell of cannabis in bedroom coming through air vents, turned out the tenant downstairs had a thriving cottage industry growing in the cellar.

Are there -tobacco plants around?
They are pretty flowers that smell just like weed.
Who do you live with?
2 doors away seems far away for it to be stinking out your dining room tbh

2 doors down sounds quite far to be stinking out the inside of your house. Could there be another culprit?

It's really hard to say without knowing exactly what's going on - poor insulation can allow stuff to seep through, you could be down wind of a heavy smoker, a lot of people secretly smoke weed and you'd never know it so could be someone right next door who you'd never guess, could be someone down the street growing it, could be a plant or animal pee causing the smell... Could be anything really.

Thanks all

Yes it does seem a long way to travel 2 houses. I’m currently having a loft conversion and no smells up there! No cellar but I can imagine the insulation is not great.

I think I need to chat to the neighbor in between (when we can’t be overheard - easier said than done in a terrace).

..... I suppose it could be my neighbour the other side in her late eighties!!

Are you sure you don't have mice/rats? Their nests smell just like cannabis.

HK20 · 01/03/2019 19:53

We thought we could smell cannabis but turns it was fox wee. Our porch smelt like it for a day too as one of us had trod in it.

I definitely wouldn't go accusing neighbours unless you know it's them for certain

SurreyisSunny · 01/03/2019 20:22

Omg had not thought of mice. I’ve saw droppings under the floorboards when I moved in.....
