Boiler cover - how much?

Just that. If I buy a house this year I want boiler cover, the best there is.

Are we talking £10 per month or £50 per month?! That's assuming the boiler is say less than 10 years old and I have it checked by BG and confirmed it's okay...

I pay £28 a month for BG Homeserve plan 2, which covers an annual service, rplus radiators and pipework inside the home. Our boiler is 15 years old although I'll shortly be starting a thread of my own 're boiler cover...

The cover is often not worth the paper it is written on, British Gas especially.
I found it much better to get it serviced regularly locally and put money aside for repairs.
I think the quote from BG was about £30pm but that was years ago.

Not worth it- as I discovered it covers the yearly check up- not the expensive part of replacing a knackered boiler. Better to pay for your own service annually

Okay secondary question then... how much for a proper service once per year?

My heating engineer charges £50 for an annual boiler service (on a standard boiler).
I've not had to spend anything on parts yet, boiler is just over 6 years old.

£60 I paid

mrsm43s · 26/02/2019 17:15

About £60 pa for a service.

A service does not guarantee that a fault will not develop.

When becoming a property owner, you need to have a sensible amount of contingency that you put aside each month for maintenance and repairs.

SomeDayPerhaps · 26/02/2019 17:54

@mrsm43s

I'm very much aware of that

Get home emergency cover on your house insurance instead.

We have a great plumber.
Annual service is £60.

My friend had British Gas cover. Her boiler died in the middle of winter when she had her elderly father staying with her. They couldn’t get someone out for 3 days. She paid £25 a month.

I had the opposite experience of British Gas boiler cover. We took our the cover after completing on a new house and about a week later the boiler died. Engineer came out the same night, and although couldn't fix it since he needed parts, left an assortment of fan heaters etc. Returned 36 hours later with the part and pretty much rebuilt the boiler. The parts were about £600-800 and he spent a morning doing it, so it must have been around £1k worth of work.

We paid around £20/mth for the cover.
