Had a survey done and quote supplied. The guy who did the survey didn't notice(and I wasn't aware) that it was tongue and groove and told me he would strip fill, which I had wanted. It actually had to be filled with saw dust/resin mix which Im not hugely keen on. He also didn't notice the floor was fir not pine, so when it came to it the workers found it hard to find suitable reclaimed fir boards to replace broken ones. The colour match is therefore poor. He also didn't notice an issue between kitchen and diner, which the workers have left it untreated. I have phoned and emailed and been ignored competely and they've just sent me the bill so clearly think the matter is over. Its £2k worth which is a lot to me. See pics of poor colour match and missed bit. Am I being fussy??

Wow that’s a shockingly bad job! I’d be gutted!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 26/02/2019 12:20

Appalling, especially the kitchen bit!

FrostedSnowdrops · 26/02/2019 12:29

That's bad, I would definitely say you are unhappy.

LIZS · 26/02/2019 12:33

The infill is the wrong size and the finish patchy.

suziedoozy · 26/02/2019 12:36

I def would not be paying for that! You could have DIY’d and done a better job!

You are not being unreasonable at all!

AdoreTheBeach · 26/02/2019 12:56

That is completely poor job. Goodness those blue/green marks!! Then the sizing (two pieces?), sizing and finish in the doorway is atrocious.

Do tell them (in writing) that these need to be addressed and rectified at no additional cost to you. You want wood to match and stained as per in the main room. Properly cut, single piece of wood in the doorway and flush to match elsewhere in the room. None of these large gaps nor two wonky cut pieces of wood. Give them a week to do it. If not done, contact them again and advise if not done you’ll be tweeting about it, contacting trading standards too. If they’re on check a trade, that you’ll also be reporting them. Use these photos too.

No payment until replaced. If they’re not prepared to go this, get quotes to havevggis five and advise them - in writing- that you’ll be deducting these costs to repair from their invoice.

They’re meant to be the professionals so should know what your floor is by looking at it and if they can/cannot do the work.

Seeleyboo · 26/02/2019 12:58

Oh god. Shocking. Do not pay them until they have corrected that properly.

theemmadilemma · 26/02/2019 13:09

That is shocking OP.

wkwgo44 · 26/02/2019 13:48

Finally got hold of manager and he has maintained there is no problem and if I did want the bluey grey bits replaced it would cost me an extra £50 a metre Shock

avocuddl · 26/02/2019 14:59

That is awful! Have you paid up already?

Scootingthebreeze · 26/02/2019 15:11

Wow that's a terrible effort on their part!

Hoppinggreen · 26/02/2019 17:41

Really really bad, sorry

MiniMum97 · 26/02/2019 17:48

Don't pay whatever you do. That's the only way you'll get it fixed. If nice you pay them you'll never hear from them again.

user1498572889 · 26/02/2019 18:25

It’s awful. Does this company have Twitter. If they do post your pictures on there and complain. Also contact trading standards and ask their advise.

GiveMeFiveMinutes · 26/02/2019 19:02

Please tell me you haven't paid them?

Squirreltamer · 26/02/2019 20:46

Sorry OP you’re completely right it looks like a bad job.
Even if the correct wood. You should try and stagger joins at different points and also hide them in less used areas.
2k is pretty expensive I paid 1.7k (south west) for 61sqm including taking up the boards and sound proofing the cavity below with soundslab.
For your reference replacement boards were priced at £1.25 per linear foot for reclaimed pine. The guy could get any wood going from the reclaimation yard.
A quick search online shows Fir boards are £3.50 to £5 per linear metre depending on width/thickness 1st google hit (co2timber.co.uk/flooring.php) And the blue/grey staining may be fungus in the sap. It doesn’t mean it’s inferior wood but it’s no harder and penny’s more to get wood without this discolouration. And you certainly wouldn’t spec it unless the rest of your floor was like it!

wkwgo44 · 27/02/2019 07:53

Thanks everyone. I'm getting a different local company in to give an objective professional opinion and then I shall decide what to do next. Paid a 50% deposit up front and will hold onto the rest for now!
