Hello

I would like to fit blackout blinds with side tracks in the nursery, something similar to below.

www.orderblinds.co.uk/dept/total-blackout-roller-blind_d01274.htm

However I am not sure how to do it/if possible at all with the UPVC sash windows that are in the bedroom. The issue with with the handles/hooks I circled in red. As far as I can see they would prevent blinds from going all the way down. So I am wondering if there is clever way of doing it or some blinds with side tracks that would overcome this issue?

I was searching online but could not find suitable replacements for the handles that would solve the problem.

Many thanks.

Yes you’d need to get rid of those sash pulls. You may find you don’t need anything to replace them and can just open the window by holding the top edge of the lower window frame and pushing upwards. If that doesn’t work, you can get handles that attach to the top surface of the lower window frame - google “sash pull handle”. These would work with the blinds you mean (by the way they are also called Cassette Blinds).

you could use flat rings instead of the sash lifts. You stick a finger in them. I have some but I don't remember where they came from. They are stamped out of flat metal plate.

I gather you have the London design of window fitting, where it is aligned to the inside face of the wall. You might be able to fix your blinds to the architrave, assuming it projects beyond the sash. You might have to fit an extra batten to the wall for the purpose, with the intention to remove it when blackouts are no longer needed.
