Can I have a plug and chain on a Kaldewei steel bath?

I have my eye on a lovely Kaldewei steel bath, but all the wastes on their website are the pop-up kind, which I suspect might leak eventually. I’d like an old fashioned plug on a chain. Can I fit one of these to a Kaldewei bath? Or does it have to be the one they recommend to fit? Thanks!

I can see no reason why not.

Have you asked the maker?

We had a Kaldewei steel bath about 10 years ago, i’m pretty sure it had a plug and chain.
Pop up plugs that operate with a metal rod are useless but I don’t mind the ‘click-clack’ ones.

Pretty sure bath wastes are universal. We had a plug and chain on a steel bath. They do clank about if it's a metal plug. Or fall out of the overflow thing they are supposed to fit in.

I don’t mind clanking but I don’t like the idea of falling out!

I have emailed Kaldewei so shall see what they say - though I suspect they'll probably just recommend their own kind.

Yes, the lever type I am desperate to avoid, as I always manage to break them. I don’t think I’ve tried the kind you press, which does sound a bit better... instinctively I would go for the tried and tested method of plug on a chain though!

Hmm... their wastes are 52mm diameter, so I guess I would need one that size. Not sure if that is standard or not (suspect not).

Is this any good?

Honest we have had two different kaldewei baths, just used off the shelf waste fittings from the plumbers merchant. I think 52mm/2 inch is a standard size for the hole in the bath. Mcalpine do good quality waste fittings if you want an alternative.

Yes.
I had a kaldewei steel bath from bathstore. It came with a standard bathstore branded chrome plug and chain...nothing fancy.
Never broke and never scratched the bath in the 8 years of my ownership.
