I go to Newark for reflexology. It's a lovely little market town. Half way between Nottingham and Lincoln. No Caffè Nero though which annoys me! Lots of independent shops and cafes. Property seems expensive though.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/02/2019 15:33

Bonuses about schools. Though. I wouldn't imagine they are too bad. It seems a posh area. Some lovely villages near but abd a nice day spa.

monicastwinsister · 20/02/2019 16:01

mmmm thats not what im seeing on 2 fb pages. crime, chavs and travellers! bad secondary schools..... property is very good for money , a bit too good to be true! ill need more convincing.

It's a lovely market town on the river Trent. It's got a Waitrose. A castle, lots of individual shops, a town hall with an art gallery, a market. Nice parks and walks. I'd live there if I wanted to move and had no ties. Go and

Posted too soon. Go and visit it. Don't listen to fbk spotted - whatever spotted you look at for any town is full of negative comments

It’s a lovely place as long as you don’t live in it. Check out tolney lane. I’m about 8 Miles from Newark, loads of lovely villages roundabout. Bingham is very popular and has good transport links, much more expensive though

Villanellesproudmum · 20/02/2019 22:31

House prices are cheap, market town. Good rail links. Schools (teaching quality) don’t know, Magnus secondary school has good sports facilities though. Buses travel to Grammar schools.

I live near Newark and have friends who live there.
It has some lovely shops and some ok primary schools but a lot of people ship secondary school aged children out to Sleaford or Grantham.
The crime is high and there are some really rough parts, I wouldn't live there. There are some lovely villages not too far away which are much nicer.

We live in a village near Newark and think it’s a lovely place to live.
Very practical in terms of amenities and everyday shopping, and it has a nice atmosphere in town with the architecture and coffee shops etc.
There are ofsted good or outstanding primary schools, and a new secondary school is being built.
I went to a secondary school in Lincolnshire and there were people from Newark attending there so that’s always an option if the secondary schools aren’t amazing.
Newark college is a good alternative to sixth form as well.
I have lived in Lincolnshire and Nottingham, and prefer it to both. It is small enough to be sleepy, and large enough to have the amenities we are looking for.
We did look at Derby, Nottingham, villages South and South East of those, and concluded it was best value for money and offered everything we were looking for.
I don’t think we’ll move from here hopefully...

There are good and bad parts everywhere! Parts of Newark are lovely, other parts not so much. You need to go and have a look. If you want more of a village, Collingham is nice.

Marcipex · 21/02/2019 17:37

The M&S is earmarked for closure. There is a waitrose and some ruins, nice country walks around, many many travelers.
The surrounding villages are nicer but non existent bus services, you'd need a car.
Property is always cheap for a reason.

I live in a village near Newark and it’s lvoely. Secondary schools in Newark centre aren’t great but are improving. Most people use Tuxford or Southwell Minister. Some grammars in Sleaford or Grantham and some go to Toot Hill st Bingham. Plenty of options.

Honeyroar · 21/02/2019 20:14

I used to live there when I left home. It's a sleepy little town. There's a big traveller site nearby, already mentioned, Tolney Lane, which a lot of locals blame for crime. I lived in Balderton, just outside, which used to be fine. A lot of the villages on the Lincolnshire side are sweet. Southwell is lovely, but won't be cheap. Lincoln is lovely too. Everywhere is a bit quiet and dormitory feeling, and it's a long way from anything that feels like a city. The countryside is nice, but pretty flat. Nice people though.
