So me and my OH are having a new kitchen. He is absolutely only interested in handless gloss kitchen whereas i do like some others but am fairly relaxed about it so on that basis we have compromised and gone for a handless gloss kitchen...Smile
anyway when i have looked at the millions of door samples he has shown me i just don't love any - they are too dark, too light, too bright etc etc. However he is now suggesting white and i never in a million years would have considered white but after some googling/ pinteresting will this look ok with a light grey marble-y type top, grey floor (fairly light), gold accessories and midnight blue chairs etc for breakfast bar then as the space will be open there is also an exposed brick wall and quite 'industrial-y dining table again with the midnight blue chairs. Does that sound shit or nice? I want it modern but also want it to feel social and welcoming

That sounds gorgeous and glam! (Although personally I'd want gold handles.) I would sketch it up or cobble together something in photoshop to get an idea of the finishes all going together but gloss white should go perfectly with grey, blue, gold and marble.

Gloss kitchen owner here. Don't do it. Every tiny finger print shows up. Every tiny water mark. I spend ages cleaning the God damn cupboards to make them look presentable. Fyi I didn't get to pick my kitchen.

It's odd but also have a white gloss kitchen and it really doesn't show up marks at all. I wonder if it depends on the material the doors are made from/how they're painted? Ours are lacquered MDF rather than foil - we did have wrapped doors before and they showed everything

Mine isn't far off yours - white handlesless gloss (DIY kitchens, Luca gloss I think, they changed the name) with a light grey marbley-granite top. It still looks great, cleans easily...still love it

Helpmepleaseeeeeee · 20/02/2019 08:59

burrito i actually would have chosen gold handles but my other half wouldn't entertain any handles at all lol.
LoopyLu thank you for that - really interesting because i thought Matt would be better for that reason but in all of the kitchen places we have been they said gloss is easier to keep clean?!
Statistically sounds fab and we are looking at DIY as one option - would you possibly mind sharing a photo of yours with me - if that is too cheeky it is no problem

I'll try to dig one out, it's like a bombsite at the moment! GrinBlush

I’ve just ordered a new kitchen, no handles white gloss with a warm wood worktop and the same wood on the wall. I looked at marble but thought it was a little stark and clinical. One wall will be painted navy and I’m looking for reclaimed wood stools at the moment.

Also have a white gloss kitchen and have no problems with marks showing. I would imagine darker colours would, like red or black maybe.

What you describe sounds lovely btw. I always think white units look clean and fresh, and you are not then limited to certain colours for the wall paint or tiles.

Yes similar breakfast although it is a very big open space and the brick wall is at the other end of the room - not so close to the kitchen side of the room if that makes sense?

Sounds similar to our kitchen plans. Were hoping to go for this one from Howdens

I originally wanted white gloss, but I’m st the other end if it now looking at Charcoal matt 🤣.

There are lots of gloss white doors, they vary considerably in quality and it shows when they’re installed. The best ones I found were the ones they have at a company called Panelven in Petersfield. They’re all lovely and really helpful. Even if you’re nowhere near them they’ll help you find someone near you or whatever. If you hold the doors up reflecting light you can see whether you get a ‘clear’ reflection or lots of distortion. Theirs had very minimal distortion.

I have NOTHING to do with them as a company, they were just very helpful.

I’m currently stuck with my own kitchen because what I want doesn’t, and can’t, actually exist 🤣 so I now have to settle for something else and I really don’t ‘do’ settling 🤣

Yours sounds lovely if you can put up with fingerprints on the doors. Frankly. I know I couldn’t and that I’d live with a buffing cloth in my hand 🖐🏿 and I don’t want to do that.

Thanks IncrediblySad i think the problem i had was that what i thought i wanted didn't exist either haha and none of the colours were quite right compared to the colour in my head!! I loved the Charcoal and really sark colours but my partner thinks would have been too much in our space although we loved some of the examples of them we saw!

Are you having an island?
If so, you could have that in a dark colour.
Loads of white with some contrast units looks great

Helpmepleaseeeeeee · 21/02/2019 10:59

That's exactly what we are doing Breakfast we were thinking a really dark, charcoal grey for island. Floor sample arrived last night and LOVE it Smile
