Ikea hack legs help!

I have just bought a besta cabinet unit from ikea and want to put hairpin legs on it.

The unit on display has 8 legs and the lady at ikea said ideally it needs support in the middle so it doesn’t sag.

Would putting 8 hairpin legs on it look wierd? All the Pinterest images I can find of people using hairpin legs only have 4. Or alternatively I could put hairpin legs on the corners and just get a complimentary straight leg to use for the inner 4 supporting legs. Any thoughts?! I’ve attached a photo (I think) Of the unit in ikea.

I would use 4 hairpin legs along the front, matching them with the cupboards.
2 hairpin for back corners, 2 plain middle back

You get a supporting leg that goes in the middle. The ones at the front are decorative really.

I'm sitting looking at a besta tv unit right now, there are legs at the front ends but if you look at the middle there are two support legs that can't really be seen so as Edith says as long as you have those whatever is at the front is just decorative.

Scuse dog toys, he's been having a moment...

@AlanThePig Honestly, your Besta does look like it's sagging in the middle. I would put 4 legs on it, front and back.

This is the supporting leg:
www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/shelving-units-systems/best%C3%A5-supporting-leg-grey-art-50293604/

Once it is used to balance the unit any other legs can be used.
120cm units need 1 supporting leg. 180cm units need 2 of them.

@BreakfastAtSquiffanys it's not honestly, we've had a level on it. DH just needs to actually sort the doors.

Sorry, but I have no idea what "hairpin" legs are.

Legs is legs, is legs! The shop version looks nice n sturdy, and the legs it's using looks good.

I'd go with 8 legs as displayed, and the leg choice as displayed. ... Yes I'm a man, and I know that a long cabinet can/will sag with enough load in it.

If youre gonna fill the cabinet, and place a large TV on top, I would definitely out middle legs on it. Otherwise after time, it WILL sag.... That's just basic physics!

Thanks all. I saw the middle support legs in the store but one of the reasons I want to change the legs is to raise it up slightly. I was going to go with 20cm hairpin legs and the Ikea support is only 10cm.

Do you think having 4 hairpin legs across the front would look clunky?

I could just get some plain legs for the middle but set them back a bit so they aren’t right at the front. But if it’s raised up a bit they might be visible and look odd!!

Our besta is attached to the wall and then we’ve got hairpin legs that are just over 20cms on the front corners for the look (and a bit of additional support I guess).

Gosh lucky we had a man along to tell us how physics works! Hmm Did you mean to sound so sexist macblank?

Lacypants · 14/02/2019 11:23

I, for one, am thrilled that macblank let us know that he has a penis. Now we know to take his advice EXTRA seriously, because penis.
