Converting garage into utility room

Has anyone successfully done this? the garage is attatched to our 4 bed 1930's semi, garage door to the front Andorra to the back which leads to the garden. I would like to keep access to the garden from the front, what would be the easiest solution, bearing in mind we also want to add toilet. Do we need planning permission?

No help but exactly what we were talking about doing with our garage!

Yes, we did this in our old house. Worked really well. Front part of garage became bike store. Back part became utility room. We also extended roof line off back of garage to bring outdoor toilet to be inside. Plastered utility and downstairs toilet and tiled floor throughout. Also moved boiler from kitchen into new utility room. It was a really handy space. Forgot to say added door going direct from kitchen to utility space, blocking the original back door of kitchen. Kept the doors either end of garage so we had direct passage front to back.

Els1e,

How much did it cost?

If adding a door between house and garage, you'll need building regs and a fire door.
