Help How do I get my upvc windows checked?

10 years ago we had all the windows replaced with upvc ones. A handyman supplied and fitted and I didnt know that you had to use Fensa or building inspection to sign it off.

I need to remortgage and this is now an issue. Does anyone know how I can get the workmanship checked and signed off. I am afraid of using building regs at council but I didnt know I was doing anything wrong. I am reading stuff about structural integrity of walls and scaring myself silly despite having had the for 10 years now. Incidentally, 2 smaller panes need to be replaced as they have condensation inside them. Will fensa be able to tell its a good jb if i get them to replace the glass? Is there a private building inspector I can get to check it over or even fensa to check it certify?

I cannot afford to get all new frames Sad

I didn’t know you needed that for a remortgage... I’ve had uninspected work carried out too - hopefully someone will be along shortly to clarify.

Had I known that it was a requirement, then i most definitely would have done it. Just to clarify bloodyworried if you had a fensa guy install your windows then it is fine as you can still obtain a certificate even if you don’t have one.

I didn’t know fensa was a building regulation requirement so I went with the cheapest quote. Now I know why it was cheap Sad

Can anyone else shed some light on this?

Have you checked Fensa website?
You can search to see if your windows were registered

Our last house had no fensa certificates on the windows that were put in about 10yrs ago and we remortgaged a couple of times and sold the house with no trouble over the lack of certification.

Lots of regular window fitters will still register the windows with Fensa. It doesn't have to be a Fensa guy
