This has just come on the market about 10 minutes drive from me.

No way could I afford it. Maybe if I talked some people into commune living!!

I want a castle!!

No way I’ve watched way too many Sarah Beeney programmes where these large estates need 200k a year to upkeep

MrsIronfoundersson · 05/02/2019 20:55

You'd need about 10k to fill the bookshelves! Beautiful though.

ginyogarepeat · 05/02/2019 21:09

Not far from me! It's not a single property any more though - think it's several apartments with pp for more.....

PrismGuile · 05/02/2019 21:11

Link doesn't work on mobile for me?

PrismGuile · 05/02/2019 21:12

Got it! OMG I could afford that if I sold my London flat 😭 wtf are London house prices?!?

Ffsnosexallowed · 05/02/2019 21:13

I remember staying there on brownie camp over 30 years ago...

Oddcat · 05/02/2019 21:13

£500,000 ! is that all ? (not that I could afford that) , we have 4 bed houses going for more than that where I live !

I'll go halves with you op .

PizzaPlanet · 05/02/2019 21:18

Bit worrying how there are 20 bedrooms and 10 reception rooms but the photos only show about 3 or 4 rooms, plus no bathroom or kitchen pics! Nice castle though but not for me, I get stressed out cleaning and decorating my regular sized house.

SavoyCabbage · 05/02/2019 21:27

Bagsy I don’t get the flat called ‘Dining Room House’. That’s a terrible address!

Andtheskyisgrey · 05/02/2019 21:30

The description makes clear it is for development. Has PP for 6 apartments. So, currently uninhabitable, doesn't have kitchen/bathroom etc.

Would be amazing to turn it into one grand residence, but as the 6 apartments are 3500 sq foot, it would be ginormous!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/02/2019 22:36

Wouldn't have it as a gift.

A relative of dh's has a very large, 17thC property in France, albeit with 'only' 8 bedrooms in the main house, but many other rooms.

He once told me that the heating oil alone costs €50k a year.

You need exceedingly deep pockets. These places eat money at a most ravenous rate.

flirtygirl · 06/02/2019 11:08

I think 4 or 5 families could together and make that great. Like the communal grand design on TV years ago. Those were separate house but on one piece of land and rules drawn up as to the builds. I would do a build like that if it came up in an area I liked.

MiniMum97 · 06/02/2019 18:56

Beautiful! But you would need a shot ton of money to do it up, furnish it and run it!

jollyjester · 06/02/2019 19:27

A few Game of Thrones scenes were filmed in it. Maybe tours could operate for fans to raise a few pounds? Grin
