Bathroom light fitting

The lamp keeps flickering so I think it needs changing, only problem is I have no idea how to get at it, never changed it before. It feels solid, doesn't twist it push up and can't unscrew the center. Don't want to risk breaking (we rent) pic attached.

don't know. The thing in the middle looks like a screw in a rusty washer. Take a closeup of it please.

Is the doughnut glass?

blamethecat · 03/02/2019 15:43

It is glass. I will try and get closer.

Try rotating the whole white front to see if it un-slots from a rear bracket. A bit like a bayonet light fitting.

Sorry they're not great

edit - my parents used to have something similar in an old kitchen. It would get stuck, so unless you knew it unscrewed you wouldn't think it did. Just an idea.

Did it unscrew from the metal pin bit or the whole thing ? I can't really grip the pin bit as it's fairly small

the screw head looks quite damaged. It might take an allen key, or a Torqs driver, or a Pozi, or even a Philips. It looks like it's led a long life.

If you use the wrong one you will make it worse.

From the look of it the screw will have rusted into place and there is a good chance something will break.

Depending on the attitude of the landlord or agent, if you think they will moan at it being broken, ask them to come and replace it or change the bulb.

I'd change the whole fitting for a new one with a standard LED bulb inside.
Wickes bt there are lots more. Phillips have a range of them that I can't find.

Bathroom electrical work needs to be done by someone competent, especially in a rental.

Thanks for the replies, I can't shift it so might have to get someone in or have it replaced.
