Angry red stain on hardwood floor, landlady going to enter - any hope!?

See attached. I went to a fancy dress party a few months ago and didn't realise until the next day that some faked blood had poured onto the floor. I feel terrible about it.

So I've resigned myself to not getting my deposit back but I live with the landlady's daughter which feels like living with a landlady anyway. It took ages for me to feel like we have a decent relationship, as she was quite difficult to get close to, but now we do I don't want to admit what I've done as I know she'll be rightly annoyed.

Unfortunately she's decided to change all the furniture in my bedroom on a whim including replacing the table where the stain is - stating she will help me assemble the table etc over the next few days! Little bits of red come out with nail varnish remover but white wine vinegar didn't work. Am I totally screwed and resigned to being hated for the rest of my lease? I have 6 months left in this flat...

I have no idea but I bet there are a whole bunch of makeup and special effects people on MN who know how to clear up fake blood.

If you started a thread with the title specifically mentioning fake blood stain on hardwood floor I bet you'd get useful help.

There is something for bleaching wood you get in hardware stores (...possibly called wood bleach?) but I am guessing you would need to sand the floor back a bit before applying and then afterwards would need to re treat the floor (stain and varnish/wax etc) so it matched and possibly you would just have a neater shaped mismatched bit. So I don’t think you should attempt it with out landlady giving her permission. Really she should get to choose how to tackle it. Couldn’t you come clean? It must be very stressful but I feel that it is going to be discovered anyway...

Wood bleach from amazon is the answer. Give that a crack. Other wise they are looking at a complete resending and revarnishing job.

Couldn’t you sand that patch back to to the unstained wood and then beeswax it? It looks like the solid oak parquet we had in our old house.

You'll need to sand back, re stain and varnish.

Hopefully it's just stained the varnish.

I would sand that square down with sandpaper then revarnish (assuming rest is varnished) with clear varnish.

Jeez I haven't sanded anything in about 10 years. Will a hand sander/sanding block suffice?

I don't think I have the time/money right now to be getting a machine...!

Also just impressed people weren't laughing it up RE the cock and balls in the very first post...honestly no idea how I managed that.

I did our kitchen floor just literally with piece of sandpaper and plain varnish, no machine tools. Looks fine, only thing is I did whole floor, just doing one square it may end different shade to others but they look different shades anyway so think will be OK.

I had to do the same and this is what I learned. You need to sand a much larger area than the stain. Then clean thoroughly with alcohol. Then you need to match the stain which in our case r meant mixing clear with a little bit of yellow. It worked but took me and a decorater friend about four hours to do

Honestly op, try wood bleach on it first before you go to sanding it. You can buy it from amazon and it may lift it, it's worth a twenty quid punt. It's very easy to use. I used this one,

The pressing issue is that my landlady wants to come into the bedroom and be involved in setting up the new table and removing the old one. I'm not going to have time to get wood bleach from amazon as I reckon she'll try to push doing it this weekend.

I actually came home from work the other day to find her in my bedroom disassembling the wardrobe with her friend! I was pretty pis*ed to be honest, that she didn't ask for permission. Anyway...

Yes, they were. As it happened I arrived home right before they started on it. It took them 2 1/2 hours to assemble it n the bedroom and I was totally shattered on a work night. Not impressed!

Then she asked if I wanted a new table, I said no I am honestly happy with this one right now. Today (2 days later) she brings home a new table and now I have this problem on my hands. Obviously it is my fault for being careless with the stain but I also have a horrid cold and could've done with dealing with it later on.

Text her and put her off explaining your need for duvet days.

Is that a wooden floor tile? It looks as if the stain is contained within one tile so could you find a matching one and do a lift and replace job?

Just in case it helps - baby wipes got a dried in Ribena stain out of several carpets in our family (makes me wonder what's in them !)

Stage blood is made so that it launders out fairly well in a hot wash with soap powder. I have a idea it contains glycerine to thicken up. Start with a mild detergent and damp sponge. Meths or an alcohol cleaner should also work.

There is another type thickened with syrup, that stays sticky.

How long did you leave it before cleaning?
