AIBU? Annoyed at Contractor

I wanted to have a extraction fan/cooker fitted in my kitchen. We've had one in a box in storage for awhile so we decided to have it installed.

We went to a contractor we've used twice before for exterior work and my friend had her bathroom remodelled by him&his company so I felt secure in having him come in to do the work.

He quoted us £145 for the work,£65 to him,£80 to the electrician he uses.He didn't come round nor did the electrician to view the area prior to work starting which I now feel they should have and should have questioned it but I trusted the contractor and thought he knew what he was doing.

He's turned up with his workmate, they've drilled a large hole through the wall and nearly went through the electrical cables for my electric oven and then came out with "oh I should have checked the position of those" (no shit Sherlock),he's then buggered off home for lunch and left his workmate to finish up.His workmate left and didn't clean up a bloody thing,I expected to clean up the plaster dust but not have to remove and dispose of the rubble left behind in my kitchen and garden,he could have asked for a bin-bag and a dustpan,I feel it's just common courtesy not to leave the paying client to clean up all of your mess.

The electrician turned up and looked at the job and told me he couldn't do anything, there is the cooker switches and a plug socket directly avoid the oven, they were there went we moved in,I never thought anything of it before but the electrician said that they need to be moved for safety reasons.

Now the plasterwork which I had done in August needs to come off the wall to have the work carried out and part of it would have needed to come off regardless as the electrician needs to gain access to the wiring behind the plaster. The electrician said that the contractor should have been aware of this and should have told prior to starting the work.We have no choice but to carry on as there's now a hole in the kitchen wall.

The cost of the electrical work has jumped from £80 to £300 and the contractor wants an extra £100 for replastering the wall afterwards meaning the cost of the work is now £465 not £145.I'm fuming,if I knew I would have just had the sockets moved which would have cost less and had the rest of work done another time.

We're now skint until payday on the 10th,we're not having to cutback on everything until then.Ive had to cancel my driving lessons&my daughters dance lessons.

Frankly I think the contractor has a damn nerve to charge us for the plastering work in the first place as he's balls up.
