I'm currently going through a claim with my buildings and contents insurance and the insurer has given me the option of them completing the work or paying us for the cost of the works for us to organise ourselves.

Anyone have any experience of having a claim and know what we would be best to do?

It feels easier to let them do it but I'm very particular and want it to be right once done

Have they given you a limit on the amount they would pay? When I had this the insurers only offered £349 for us to get the work done which I knew wouldn't cover it so I asked them to do it instead (They hadn't offered to do it) and it ended up costing them about £1400!! Glad I hadn't just taken the money

We haven't been given the total yet but I've been keeping a record of everything and had quotes for it all and it's coming at quite a bit.
Not too sure they will offer the same value.
