Dark ceiling in a box room?

DS has asked for a dark blue ceiling with stars for his box bedroom (6ftx8ft) and I can't decide if this is a terrible idea or not!

Has anyone done this?

I've been thinking about buying some suitable fabric and tacking it over the ceiling as a temporary measure while we decide whether to do it or not.

In the meantime, the walls also need repainting, and I need some inspiration for what colour would go with a dark blue or white ceiling?

It's a very sunny south-facing room, white furniture, beige carpet. Any suggestions (not grey) ?

Anyone?

The light fitting in that room is also terrible not sure what would be best to replace it with. ..

I'd let him have what he likes. It's his room and it's only paint that can be painted over at a later date. I'd just embrace it and go the whole hog with stars, moon, shooting stars, space man. Could you find some sort of rocket light shade.

I know how you feel though. My son has asked for 2 bright red walls when his gets decorated later this year 🙄🤢

I am leaning towards just doing it. I can't find any pots of anything similar online to show him which is a shame, only fancy lighting set ups.

Am leaning towards a pale blue for the walls.

And sorry about the red! Bet he'll love it though!

My DS went through a similar ‘phase’. Bearing in mind that dark paint can be difficult to paint over, I found this a solution. I hung camouflage netting from hooks on the ceiling, similar to your idea of fabric.
My DS wanted dark purple walls which I painted over the existing wallpaper.
A couple of years later he then wanted a white Zen like room, easily done by stripping the wallpaper and removing the netting.

Re light fitting, we used spots on a bar, easily fitted to the existing ceiling fittment and can be positioned for atmosphere.

White for the other walls would match and make it seem bigger. If you paint it white hang some pictures/spacey things so it doesn't look too boring.

Funnily enough, the ceiling must have been blue at some point previously, because you can see it where we had a repair done. I don't now how many coats of white were needed over the top...

Because of the repair I have to repaint it now anyway.

I am a bit wary of white walls because it's so tight for space the high traffic wall seems to get marked incredible quickly.

Maybe a pale colour wouldn't be any better though.

Could you frog tape the walls and do dark blue/navy on top half and ceiling, and white below? I think this a great look.

I think it could look great. You say the room is sunny so it should be able to handle it, I think the lighter the better on the walls, you could try washable paint to wipe down any marks.
