Would you buy a home without a bath?

Just pondering this question.

We will be starting a total renovation soon. It will be our family home for 5-10 years but we will then sell on. We have not used a bath for years - youngest is 11 years old now but obviously did when they were small. So I'm thinking, why install a bath when we could have a lovely walk in shower...

However, would it put people off buying a house with 2 bathrooms but no bath? Or would people just look past it and put in their own bath if that's what they need.

I would love to hear thoughts please.

All you need to do in 10 years time is put one back in before you put the house on the market. Simples Grin

Jsmith99 · 27/01/2019 16:48

Yes, as long as it had a really nice wet room with a proper Grohe shower system.

steppemum · 27/01/2019 16:54

It would put me off.
I would need to be sure that I had the money to redo the bathroom. Maybe not straight away, but at some point.

Bumblebee39 · 27/01/2019 16:59

I would if I could afford to put a bath in
I rarely bath, and have rented a house without one in the past, but my kids love baths and on occasion I would like one also

Definitely couldn't live without a shower though that's a total deal breaker

Murinae · 27/01/2019 17:08

Wouldn’t put me off but would my husband. I hate having baths and live bog walk in showers.

PenguinPandas · 27/01/2019 17:26

Think I'll stick with a bath, you can't tempt me with your live bog walk in showers Grin

Ivegotthree · 27/01/2019 17:50

Yes if I could afford to put one in. Britain's too cold to not have a bath so although I love showers, I don't want only showers.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 27/01/2019 17:52

No. When we were looking for a house last year we discounted any without a bath.

FrogFairy · 27/01/2019 17:55

I would happily buy a house with no bath, but I would not buy a house that did not have a decent size shower.

greenelephantscarf · 27/01/2019 17:55

Britain's too cold to not have a bath
that must be the weirdest thing on this thread

NoArmaniNoPunani · 27/01/2019 17:56

Yes. I just had my bath ripped out and replaced with a gorgeous walk in shower. I have a 3 year old who won't shower yet but he likes a flannel wash instead

planespotting · 27/01/2019 18:21

Britain's too cold to not have a bath
I don't come from the Bahamas. Hot shower, quickly, put and dry.
Showers do heat up the water
This is not the coldest country on earth. At all.

SpamChaudFroid · 27/01/2019 18:25

Wouldn't put me off - When I moved into my house there was a shower only and I took it out and put a bath in. I never use the bath, ever, so I'm taking it out for a decent sized shower. I doubt it will affect the resale value, and even if it did, I'd still ditch the bath.

puguin86 · 27/01/2019 18:26

When we were looking last year we discounted houses without baths. Despite the fact we totally renovated the house we ended with. We have 2 children under 5 so no bath was a big no no. It will put people off if you resell but then if depends on lots of either factors. Such as do you live in a sought after location near good schools?? People will suck it up and put the bath in if that's the case ..

magpie24 · 27/01/2019 18:27

I would rather have a bath personally but if I could fit one then it wouldn't be a deal-breaker

importantkath · 27/01/2019 18:43

I wouldn't offer asking price if I had to redo the bathroom to install a bath.

I love my bath.

Redglitter · 27/01/2019 18:46

I hate baths. Im about to get mine replaced with a lovely big shower.

I think if youre planning to live in the house for another 5 to 10 years it makes more sense to do what suits you not future buyers

joystir59 · 27/01/2019 18:47

I wouldn't be happy about a 2 bathroom house that didn't have one bath

CharlyAngelic · 28/01/2019 16:10

I love a bath. I would definitely have to have one. However , If you were selling and your house did not have one , I would just put one in.

Linguaphile · 29/01/2019 15:58

I think no bath is fine in for example a master en-suite or a 1/2 bed flat, but in a family house a lack of a bath would be a deal breaker for me.

NewYoiker · 29/01/2019 16:08

No because I'm obsessed with baths

SleepingStandingUp · 29/01/2019 16:10

Only if the price allows me to redo the bathroom

Ethel80 · 29/01/2019 16:11

If there was space to easily add a bath I wouldn't mind too much if I really liked the house but I love a bath. Ideal for me is a separate shower and bath.

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/01/2019 16:13

It would be a negative but not a deal breaker. I'd be keen on knowing how easy it would be to out one in so perhaps get some quotes to fit a bath if you put it on the market? However, as you're planning to be in this house a while I would just do what you want.

SassitudeandSparkle · 29/01/2019 16:17

It would put me off, I've never viewed a property without a bath and I think they are expected in a property aimed at families. However, the timescale you are talking about would allow for another refit at the end for sale purposes if necessary!
