Is this a positive as obviously related to solicitors and get things done quicker...

It’s not a common surname either and in the same location etc.

Or should I feel uneasy about it?

Presumably it is their solicitors not your solicitors? If so it wouldn’t concern me. Like you say, it is more likely to be a positive as things might happen more swiftly

My neighbour's a conveyancing solicitor and did her own conveyancing.

My cousin is a surveyor and has the same name as me. I've used his company for surveys in the past. I trust him to go the extra mile for me, but I can see that a purchaser might question the information.

My buyer has the same name as his solicitor too. Very unusual name in the area. I presume it's either him or a family member. It's not made things any quicker though

I don't see why this would be an issue, a relative is probably a solicitor so they paid less.

I did the conveyancing for my son when he bought last year but we have different surnames so no-one would have known we were related.....

It’s not the same as a criminal trial or legal dispute - you don’t need to worry about collusion or anything underhand. Your solicitor/conveyancer will look after your interests. We used a family friend for two of our house moves. It’s all above board. Like using someone you know as an accountant or any other professional service.

My cousin is my solicitor at a registered firm. We got discount but otherwise business as usual. I don't think she is doing anything above she would do for another client.
