Protecting books from sun damage

I have posted in decoration already but hope this gets seen more here...

We are installing a set of two bookcases in a room where there is light coming in and hitting that wall in the morning. There are 4m of glass doors so net curtains will be a bit tricky. I have thought of some kind of movable screen (the kind that is in three parts and can be stored away, the old school kind that people would get changed behind Smile) but I can imagine the cat getting hurt by it... I also considered curtains on the shelves but that may look a tad too DIY. Any ideas?

Some sort of film on the glass? The issue would be if it adversely affected solar gain in a way you didn't want. Or put doors on the bookcase.

Thank you wowfudge do you mean a film like this? I wonder if anybody had this installed. It would be nice to avoid the expense and bulk of curtains. www.purlfrost.com/mirror-and-tinted-window-film/uv-protection-anti-fading-window-film/uv-protection-window-film-auvf/#tab-2

Yes - that was just what I had in mind. Get it professionally installed.

Thank you, it seems like the best solution!

How about bookshelves with doors? You can use anti-UV glass (or film) on the shelf doors. It also stops them getting dusty.

Hi runoutofnamechanges we have the bookshelves already, they are quite tall and didn't have a glass front option. I also like the idea of any pictures on the walls being protected from the sun as well. Will post back after it's done, which isn't for another month at least...

..the dust will definitely be an ongoing battle! Grin
