We are... but I'm reading on Brexit and wondering if it is a good idea.
The cost would be around 70k onto the 100k mortgage we already have. Forever house so won't be moving if we did this. Could live without it but it'll create a larger bedroom for 1 dc who has the box room currently. It will also give us another living room and a bathroom. We only have 1 toilet currently and 4 of us so it'll make a bit of a difference😁
Job wise... I'm in education and dh hopes that he would be secure. Basically his job would still be needing done after Brexit.
What would you do

We've just remortgaged to fund an extension. I'm pretty nervous about it all tbh as worried that Brexit might make it all much more expensive. All the building firms in our part of London seem heavily dependent on skilled workers from other countries. I'm worried about delays and having to move out for longer than expected. Also worried about the prices of materials rising substantially.

Maybe it's denial but I feel like our income is pretty stable and like you, it is our forever home so if house prices dropped significantly we'd be riding it out.

Have you had any experience of extending etc before? Building work seems so stressful!

Well, if everything goes tits up better to be stuck in a nice big house than stuck in one that’s too small.

No... we've never so much as done a kitchen before nevermind extending. It's a scary thought but equally thr extra space wound be amazing. Not just for now when the kids are little but I want there to be room when they're older to have friends over etc

We are 4 weeks in to our kitchen / dining / living room extension. We are definitely going to go over the amount we remortgaged, but everything is going pretty well so far and I know it will be worth it 😬😁

We’ve not long since finished our double storey extension.... it was very stressful, We went over budget because one job seemed to create another e.g the back garden looked messy because of the building work so we added a patio then the guttering and roof on the extension looked nicer than the original house so we’re looking at getting that done too 🙈 it’s definitely worth it though!!

Starting in Spring. Back and side return. new kitchen, extra bedroom, second bathroom. Needs rewiring and new plumbing. I can't put my life on hold and this needs doing.
