How bad are macerator toilets?
Have they improved at all?

Don’t do it

We’ve got one in our loft conversion. In use for just under a year so far and it has been fine. I didn’t like the noise initially but have got used to it. For us, it was a macerator or no en suite and I’m happy we went for the macerator.

if you can get normal plumbing do it.
macerators are noisy and you can bet that a dozy visitor will put something down that will warrant an expensive repair at some point.

We were in the same place as HelpMe and it was that or nothing. It's off our guest room and office so not the go-to facility but does get regular use. We've had it for 8 years and not had an issue yet.
