Relocating to Yorkshire

Hi,

My husband has been offered a job in Bradford so we need to relocate to Yorkshire from Nottingham. I am originally from Huddersfield and do not want to move back there so that's out, but we need ideas of where to move to that is within an hours drive of Bradford.

We have an 18 month old daughter so I'd like somewhere that is flat with plenty to do in walking distance, like a small town to potter around.

If anyone has any ideas it would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Depends on your budget, but Saltaire is lovely and plenty of pottering opportunities. Or Haworth if you want something more rural.

FlatterNow · 19/01/2019 21:16

Ilkley is also lovely but very expensive!

FlatterNow · 19/01/2019 21:17

Ah, have just seen you said flat. Ignore the mention of Haworth, in that case.

Thesearmsofmine · 19/01/2019 21:17

Horbury?

MoonieMoon · 19/01/2019 21:19

I live in Saltaire. It really is the loveliest place ever! 10 min train in to Bradford and 15 mins to Leeds. Right on the edge of the moors and there's SO much to do here. Dd goes to the primary school and it's wonderful.

Whereabouts in Bradford is the job? I second saltaire, though I'm biased as that's where I grew up!

Flooffloof · 19/01/2019 21:20

Second or third saltaire.

CornflakeGin · 19/01/2019 21:32

Skipton is gorgeous too!

CornflakeGin · 19/01/2019 21:33

Is York, Harrogate or Leeds options? Bit further but just as lovely?

BikeRunSki · 19/01/2019 21:40

Saltaire
Shipley
Riddlesden
Silsden

Anywhere on that Aire Valley line, good train links to Bradford. Gets more rural going east. I know a few people out that way, with kids of various ages, always seems to be something going on.

Sutton in Craven is nice if very local train station is not a requirement.

I live in a village outside Huddersfield. You could do a lot worse than HD8 postcode area, but depends on where in Bradford your DH would be commuting to.0

Thanks for all the suggestions!

DH is going to be working on the Victoria Shopping Centre complex on the North side of Bradford.

We are going to have to downsize a bit as I’m going to have to give up work for a while so top end of the budget is £200k. From looking that probably won’t get us that much house!!

I’m pretty flexible as to where we move to, my family is spread between Leeds and Northallerton (but that is a bit too far North!). I guess one of the most important things now is good schools!!!

Another vote for Skipton, direct trains to Bradford and it's fairly flat

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 19/01/2019 22:14

Yeadon/Horsforth/Guiseley - all in between Bradford and Leeds

I'm guessing you could get something for 200K in these areas too

whoami24601 · 19/01/2019 22:19

Menston is pretty nice and has good train links to Leeds and Bradford. I'm in Riddlesden now and can also recommend there. We love it here, though it's not flat! Not far from Keighley centre which has a good range of shops too.

BikeRunSki · 19/01/2019 22:21

You’d get a 3 bed terrace in Skipton for £200K. a few here.

Beamur · 19/01/2019 22:23

You won't get much in Wharefale for £200k. Airedale (Saltaire, Shipley, Bingley) you will find something.
Have you considered Calderdale? Direct trains to Bradford and fairly easy drive. But not flat.

whoami24601 · 19/01/2019 22:25

What about Thornton? That's the right side of Bradford for you. Or wilsden? Harden? All nice areas

Itstimetoscream · 19/01/2019 22:27

Pudsey, Horsforth,Yeadon.

SergeantPfeffer · 19/01/2019 22:43

Otley? You can get a 3 bed house in otley for under £200,000. It’s an ace little town too, plenty going on. A lot of pubs too Grin
Otherwise, Shipley, saltaire, Baildon, bingley are all nice and there are decent schools too.
Don’t be expecting flat though- they don’t really do flat this side of Leeds/Bradford! The advantage is that you’re right on the edge of the moors which is awesome.

Bluesheep8 · 20/01/2019 09:01

I know you said not Huddersfield but there are some lovely villages around here. We relocated to one and it was definitely a good decision. Is Huddersfield definitely out?

Bluesheep8 · 20/01/2019 09:02

Sorry just re read, you said it's out. Please ignore me op Blush

Cottipus · 20/01/2019 09:30

Cleckheaton is a lovely town centre, family friendly and recently quite a few new bars/restaurants have opened there. £200k will be fine for a 3/4 bed house, the prices aren’t mad. It’s straight up the M606 to Bradford.

This area isn’t fashionable but offers good value for money. Only real downside is the lack of a train station, but depends how often you would use the train.
